“Fun weekend with my niece and nephew!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 5, 2013

We usually do Cannon Beach, Oregon but didn't want the 4 hour drive for an overnighter. On the advice of a co-worker we did Ocean Shores and the Canterbury Inn.

Good stuff: nice to have a green area for the kids to run around while we cooked dinner. The condo was nice, clean and had a well stocked kitchen.

Bad stuff: The pool area was a bit sad looking and can use a fixup. Got charged $50 for forgetting to start the dishwasher. Seems a bit extreme!

Room Tip: Mapquest didn't give the best directions. Go to the road closest to the beach and follow it down...

My husband chose this Inn because it was close to his childhood home, Aberdeen. We didn't know it was a resort area! Even in the winter it was easy to see how great a summer could be here as well. Because they welcomed dogs, we were happy to stay a few days. The weather was cloudy and rainy, but there was hail and thunder too! Behind the Inn are the dunes, which rise 8 to 10 feet high. From the second floor I could see the tops of the crashing waves. That continuous sound is the Pacific surf beating the shore, so soothing at night. The suite was spacious, with a small kitchen, a living room, the bedroom and bath. Next time I'll be sure to get a fireplace! My husband enjoyed swimming laps in the indoor pool, and there is a hot tub also. All in all, a very enjoyable stay that I hope to repeat!

Room Tip: Second floor has a view of the dunes and partial ocean; third floor has a clear view of the beach an...

My girlfriend and I have stayed at the Canterbury Inn several times during the fall / winter months, and have never once been disappointed. It is without a doubt, our "go to" WA coast hotel.

The beach front location near the center of town, coupled with the indoor pool, hot tub, and the gas fireplace in many of the “condo” style rooms, makes the Canterbury Inn the perfect spot for a romantic winter weekend getaway. If a view of the ocean / beach is important to you, you will want to ask for a room on the third-floor. There is no view of the ocean / beach from the first (ground lever) floor what-so-ever. The view from the second floor is spotty, from what I could tell.

The rooms third-floor we have stayed in all have DVD players and nice TV’s, so bring some movies if you want to cuddle up on the sofa with that special person. I wouldn’t recommend taking children during the fall / winter months, as there is little else to do in this small coastal tourist town, but the summer months bring out the warm weather activities, which the kids would very much enjoy.

The Canterbury doesn’t have a restaurant on site, but there are several restaurants and the town’s grocery store within a two minute drive. Some within a two minute walk, if you wish to work up an appetite on your way to the restaurant.

I also recommend bringing some inexpensive apples, as there are deer that come to the Canterbury nearly every morning to feed on the grass. Most of the deer prefer to eat apple slices right from your hand, rather than feed on the grass. They know a good thing when they see it.

I have always had a pleasant experience with the Canterbury staff, and find them to be very helpful. There isn’t a bell service, but there is an elevator and nice luggage carts available, so getting your luggage to your room is fairly trouble free.

If you decide to take a stroll along the beach, there is a fairly nice foot path directly to the beach from the hotel. If you make it to the beach early enough you might find a sand dollar or two that the birds haven’t gotten to. It can be hit or miss with the sand dollars, but the last time I was there, my girlfriend and I saw over a dozen that were still in one piece.

There is also a mid-size tribal casino, the entrance for which you will pass before you enter town, for those who enjoy gambling. There is a shuttle operated by the casino, which comes thru town, should you wish to imbibe and not want to drive.

I hope this review was helpful to you. Enjoy!!

Room Tip: If you want a view of the beach / ocean, ask for the third-floor. There is NO view from the first...

When we arrived at the Canterbury Inn, we were greeted very warmly at checked in. The staff was very friendly during our stay. The room was slightly dated but was clean and comfortable. I was however slightly disappointed in the fact that although they provided coffee and a coffee maker in the room there was only 2 creamer and 2 sugar packets for our morning brew. And that the coffee maker was so inexpensive that when you took the pot out mid brew it did not stop. :(
The 2 person Jacuzzi tub was very nice, but there seemed to be some bits of lint in the jets. After letting them run and draining the tub and wiping them out it. I didnt really see the need to call downstairs for this since it was extremely early and in the morning and it really seemed like it was just lint and dust like the jets had not been turned on for awhile. The bed was firm but not too firm and we slept well on it.

Room Tip: If your going to stay here I would choice a room with a view ( odd number rooms) on the 2nd or 3rd f...

Canterbury Inn was nice and clean. We had a pet friendly suite on the first floor. No view of the ocean from that level because of the dunes. However, nice to be able to take the dog out early in the morning. Room had a kitchenet which was useful. Queen size bed was firm and we slept well. We would probably stay here again.

Room Tip: Mike's Seafood is a great place to eat. Galoway Bay is a nice little Irish Pub.

Wish we could have stayed more than one night. We met up with friends for some clamming and they were staying here so we booked a 1 bedroom queen room with a full kitchen & fireplace. We were on the 3rd floor with a nice view. The room was great! The check in was super friendly. The rooms are very nice, but typical of places right on the ocean in that there is wear from weather. But the room was very clean and had some nice decor. The wash area outside to clean clams and rinse sand off was much appreciated. We thought it was a great price for everything that we got.

Room Tip: Get the third floor for the best views. And possibly the north end might be a little better view.

We had never been to Ocean Shores before and needed a short vacation. I read reviews on Tripadvisor and settled on Canterbury Inn Luxury Beach Resort. It's not a luxury resort. It's a large building and our room was a condo owned by a Seattle family, on the third floor. The room was small, but fine for our needs, with a nice view of the Pacific, lovely sunsets and we went to sleep listening to the ocean waves breaking on the shore. Also a nice indoor pool and hot tub, with a pleasant staff. Our big letdown, other that the $192 a nite, late in September price tag, was the town of Ocean Shores itself. We had been to Cannon Beach, Oregon and that was our main comparison. We couldn't find one nice gallery, one restaurant with a nice atmosphere, or decent art or crafts stores. The beach was BIG and you could drive on it, but it was exactly the same for miles, unlike the Oregon Coast. One friend told us later that they call it Ocean Snores. We agree. Nice to get away, but the next time we'll drive a couple of hours more and head for the Oregon Coast.
