“Large room options, great option for our family reunion”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 17, 2014

My grandparents hosted their 60th wedding anniversary celebration/family reunion at the Polynesian. The building and furnishings are dated, but the rooms were surprisingly big. We had a 2BR suite with one and a half baths. There was also a pull out sofa in the full size living room and a full size kitchen with dishwasher! This made it possible for each of the families to stay in one room and have plenty of space. It is a long walk to the beach because of where the hotel is situated near the dunes - definitely pack bug spray for the walk in the summer. All in all this place was perfect for family reunion with so many room size options and proximity to the beach. would like to see the management invest in updating furnishings, but nothing that wouldn't preclude us from recommending this place to friends.

We had a booking at another hotel but when we arrived they had overbooked and there wasn't a room. So we went here just because it was close. It looked a little old but we were pleasantly surprised by how nice it was. Very clean. Very nice staff. Pool/sauna/hot tub was really nice even though they were older. They were well maintained. There was a path that lead to the beach which was very nice with not too many people. We were a little put out that the one night we stayed (Saturday night) did not have the free breakfast included. They had a breakfast you could buy, but as they advertise free breakfast it wasn't good that they didn't provide it. Other than that it was a great stay.

If you have dogs and you want to go to Ocean Shores, this a fine choice. We got a good deal on a one bedroom suite with ocean view and balcony. The direct route to the beach is moderate dune trek, but you can drive on to the beach in 5 minutes or walk in about 10. The room included a full size kitchen, the beds were comfortable. The bathroom could use updating. Not quite luxurious, but I think it rates 3 stars. The staff are friendly and helpful and there is a pretty good restaurant in the parking lot. We saw several deer from our window. Breakfast is adequate with a waffle machine

Room Tip: There is an extra charge for dogs. Suites are nice, but a non suite room would be OK. I think all...

Thank you for the kind words. Many of our guests enjoy the fact that they can bring their pets with them when coming to visit. In addition to our one bedroom suites we also have studios, two bedroom units as well as two penthouses available depending on your needs. We also offer a game room and a private park for families with children. We look forward to seeing you again upon your next visit to Ocean Shores.

So nice to be able to have a pet friendly room with a view instead if being relegated to the ground floor in the back because you have a dog with you. Clean, comfortable, quiet and excellent service. The restaurant was also excellent.

Thank you for sharing your experience with us. We offer pet friendly rooms on our first three floors so no one is regulated to non view rooms. Chef Gordon does an excellent job at Mariah’s and many of our guests enjoy the fact that we have a restaurant on site. We look forward to seeing you again!

3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 14, 2014

My spouse and I recently stayed at the Polynesian Resort (really motel) in Ocean Shores. We have stayed here several times over the last few decades. The resort was probably built around 1960, and we first stayed here in the early 1970s.

The motel has mainly outside corridors and has three floors plus penthouses above the third floor. We stated in a one bedroom second floor apartment owned by a family in Pierce County. (I believe all of the units are owned by various individuals.) The unit had a modest view of the ocean from the small deck. Those on the third floor and directly facing the ocean have an excellent view. The ocean is only a few hundred yards away from the motel, but for the first time we were not able to walk directly to the beach from the motel because the scrub brush covered sand dunes had a number of flooded gullies.

The unit had a nice, durable carpet. The walls were freshly painted. There was a nice fireplace with management supplying a presto log each day. There were popcorn ceilings: a hold over from days gone bye. The kitchen had a large refrigerator, a dishwasher, adequate plates, cups, glasses, utensils, toaster, oven (did not use), and four burner stove top. We could not figure out how to make the microwave work on any setting but "potato," so we heated our syrup in the morning as if it were a tuber. My spouse being Irish, this somehow seemed appropriate.

The complementary continental breakfast was served in a small room which only had four tables: wholly inadequate for such a large motel. It included pastries, cereals, coffee, tea, near orange juice, and waffles, which you cook yourself. There were only two waffle irons, so of course there was one smallish fellow who cooked up a stack of waffles approximately one foot high and took them to what I assume was his famished family back at their room. A short time later, he came back and cooked up approximately half as many waffles. This was not annoying, this was amazing.

The indoor pool is of a reasonable size for a motel's indoor pool. There is a good size game room for the kids. There are some toys for kids to play on in the motel's side yard. This is a family motel, and it seemed that most families had dogs and children. We encountered no problems with the dogs. Of course, the children ran up and down the corridors and seemed to jump a lot in their rooms. However, this was not a problem because they settled down at bed time.

There are at least three grills by the outdoor play area. This was the favorite hangout for adults to smoke as no smoking is allowed in the rooms or on the small private decks.

We paid a little less than $135.00 per night, including taxes, for the one bedroom condo. We had seen this advertised on the motel's website. We had a small amount of difficulty connecting up with motel in making our reservation at night. Apparently, the night manager does reservations as well as other things and is sometimes away from the telephone. Otherwise, the staff were very prompt and enjoyable to work with.

My wife and I stayed 3 nights with our dog recently. Everything was great (except 80s appliances) during our stay. Wonderful views of the ocean, comfortable bed and quite the nice wood-burning fireplace! We were close to the leash-free beach and a plethora of area restaurants. Best vacation (in the U.S.) I've been on in many years! The room at the Polynesian were essential to the visit.

We are a family of 8 and we traveled with friends who had 4 kids. There was room for all of us. Loved the kitchen and the full fridge. The kids had fruit to snack on and milk to drink and there was room for it all in the full fridge! The price is reasonable for such a large condo. We had a room with a king bed then a separate room with two queen beds. Also, the sofa sleeper in the living room. The kids enjoyed seeing the deer walking on the lawn and being so close to the ocean. Half the fun of seeing the ocean is getting there. They also enjoyed the pool!! The staff was friendly and knowledgeable. The only down side is no complimentary breakfast on Sunday. Definitely going there again!

Room Tip: Our rooms faced the Ocean. Very quiet and you were able to leave the sliding doors open to let in t...
