“Japanese Food, yum.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 3, 2012

They turn out some really great Japanese food here. They have the regular tables or you can sit and watch the fancy blade work of the chef. The sushi bar is very fresh and the even have Tatami rooms for private dining.

“Nothing to Write Home to Mom About”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 6, 2012

Overall an extremely disappointing meal at Kyoto. Which is sad, because this actually is quite a very nice place. The waiting service is courteous and efficient. The restrooms were clean and well kept. And the place has a great centralized location, so we decided to give it a shot.

We ordered their Calamari for an appetizer and found it to be hands down the worst Calamari we have ever eaten. It was so overcooked that I could have used them as replacement wheels on a skate board.

The menu, overall, looked pretty good, but it being a new place I wanted to stick to a dish that couldn't be too easily messed up, hence the decision to order their Yakisoba. It had a nice array of vegetables and a good ratio to meat, however the taste reeked of curry and was generally bland and uninteresting. My partner ordered an Alaskan roll which was as equally disinteresting, with overpowering cucumber.

In summary, you could have the cleanest restaurant in town with the nicest staff, but if you don't serve good food, then what's the point?

“New and AMAZINGLY improved”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 12, 2012

We asked tonight and learned the new owner completely redid Kyoto with the desire to make it "authentic." Opened December, 2011. Menu does seem very authentic (I used to live in Japan) and the food and presentation are great. Atmosphere is pleasant, staff is attentive and polite, and Kyoto is one of the cleanest restaurants I've ever seen. Prices are moderate, but we thought it was well worth it. The good green tea alone is reason to go (genmaicha).

4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 15, 2008

I had the grilled shrimp for a starter they gave me 8 shrimp and they tasted great. I had beef and chicken for my main meal and the taste was very good and the amont was enough for 2 people. You want to eat here if you are in Oak harbor. Paul
