“Good Food, Friendly Staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 14, 2013

This is one of our Monroe favorites. Althought the parking lot always seems full, we usually dine early so rarely is there a wait to be seated. The free chips are always warm and taste fresh, salsa good but a bit heavy on onions for my taste. We have not been disappointed in our meals. Service has always been prompt, and friendly. Prices are reasonable for a family night out.

“We used to go here all the time.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed February 3, 2013

I've been coming to Ixtapa since I was a little kid and it was located on Main St. but it has sadly lost its luster recently. We took friends to the bar during happy hour and the waitress was in a rush to tell the specials. She said the beer was on special for $2. Oh, and the lime margaritas... and left it at that as if the margaritas were also $2. Our friends ordered the margaritas, but when they got the check they were charged $4 each. We complained about the issue in price, and she argued with us that she never said that. She ended up throwing a fit and slapped $4 and some change on our table and told us, several times, this is from my pocket since you won't let this go. When we asked to speak to the manager, he came over, said nothing, and pointed to a small chalkboard across the room (impossible to actually see from there) to a small list of happy hour drinks. He said, "see, it says $4 margaritas." We said "actually, we can't see that from here, but we can hear what she said." We were already upset at being called liars, and it obviously wasn't a priority to them to keep our business, so we left, and won't be going back again after giving them our business the last 20 or so years. We even mentioned this incident to someone we know who is related to the owners and they laughed and said even they don't go there!
The reason I gave it 2 stars is because this was in the bar, and we usually ate in the dining room and the other waitresses are great, and their chips and salsa are the best we've ever had. But the incident involved the manager of the whole restaurant, and that's where we draw the line of bad enough customer service to never be a repeat patron.

“Consistent reasonably priced food with great service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 11, 2012

This is one of our favorite restaurants. We eat there two or three times a month. It is always consistently good food at a reasonable price. The staff is always friendly and is there to refill our glasses before they are even empty. You can't go wrong stopping there for a great filling meal. If you have a Loco del la Cabasa be sure to bring your designated driver.

“Ole, good food, great service and atmosphere”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 4, 2012

Took a break from Labor Day jam traffic on US2 and pulled off in Monroe to eat at Ixtapa. Good menu, had the special fajita salad with steak and it was tasty. We were served iced tea and pop right away, and the warm chips were perfect with the salsa that had a good zip to it. The drinks were refilled without having to ask, and the food came quickly and exceeded expectations. The indoor dining area has a skylight that cheered up the place, and I have to mention the color sinks in the restroom - they bring a smile to your face as you wash up.
A great find, I am almost grateful for the slow traffic that meant our original dinner plans had to be changed.

“The Best Mexican Restaurant Anywhere”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 18, 2012

I have been going to the Monroe Ixtapa all my life and it's been consistently good since the early 90's. It started out on Main Street in a tiny building and then moved to its current location in 1993 I believe. The food is always hot and delicious. They always use tons of cheese and are good about refilling the delicious salsa. The portions have gotten smaller lately, but that's okay because there's still plenty of food. My favorites are the cheese enchilada, cheese crispy, quesadillas, and the chile relleno. The rice and beans are good too. It's hard to find anything bad on the menu. The food is also really good to go, sometimes even better than at the restaurant. The service is always friendly and incredibly fast. I have no idea how they cook the food so fast and hot. They really do treat you like family. This is the best location in the Ixtapa chain.
