“Don't understand the rave reviews here... very disappointed!”

We headed back to the Long Beach area for the 4th of July and needed one night somewhere prior to our campground reservations over the 4th. We read online on TripAdvisor about the Lighthouse Resort and felt fortunate to get a last minute reservation there. They actually had several openings... which maybe should have been the first clue to us! We read such rave reviews we were really excited to try it out! What we found was so disappointing and really unacceptable. We arrived to find a very musty, old and mildew smelling townhouse. It had 2 bedrooms downstairs with TERRIBLE beds... as bad as my grandfathers 50 year old beds!!! The upstairs had one very bland bedroom with nothing but a single bed... no decorations at all. The fireplace didn't work, the lamp didn't work (asked for a new bulb... but it ended up being the lamp that was broken), and the shades on the sliding door wouldn't shut. The slider door barely shut either. My husband and I felt like we were back in his cheap college apartment... Terrible dirty carpet with stains. We had considered that this might be a possibility for a big family reunion... but I would have a very unhappy group if I booked this place! The only positives I can come up with are a decent pool for the kids and a decent kitchen with all the necessities. The location to the beach was good too. Too bad they don't update all of their rooms (we saw that some had been online...). They need to update the decor, the BEDS, and make their decks more child-proof. I wouldn't let my kids even go near the deck. The openings on the bottom do not look up to code. Spend some money updating these places... some decent beds, decor, and repairs would definitely help a bunch!!! They only credited us back 15.00 (she told me she'd take off 20... which still didn't impress us for all the things that didn't work!)
Look elsewhere!

This was a pretty nice place, close to how they described themselves on line. The rooms in the 3 bedroom suite were good sized, the place clean for an ocean front. Two bedrooms downstairs 1K, 1Q and the unit's full bath. Upstairs, a double bed in the small bedroom, a half bath and a small kitchen and eating area. The bedding was a bit stained, so was not so appealing. Patio was nice. View was good. The pool was nice and in an enclosed building but they had the roof open. The walk to the beach was clean and not too long. We saw deer in the morning. This resort is about a mile out of town. The townhouses sit off the road, so it doesn't have road noise. I would stay here again.

“It was a perfect getaway”

I rented a one bedroom ground floor unit, the closest to the beach. The trail was literally footsteps off of my deck. My view of the ocean was fantastic. I had two little dogs with me. The hotel lobby has "doggy towels" tied with a dog biscuit to clean the beach off those little feet! The room had pretty much everything one would need for simple meal prep. No crab crackers so be sure to bring your own! You will also want to bring your own movies or books, though some are available in the lobby. Free wi-fi is available in the lobby, but with a long-range antenna I was able to access it from my room. I liked that there was no daily housekeeping, I did not worry about being disturbed or feel like I had to put my personal items away when I left the room. The front desk staff were friendly and helpful. If you want anything, all you have to do is ask. I will definitely stay here again.

We stayed in the older cottage section. It was much more economical. They ran a 3 nights for the price of 2. We also had our two dogs. We were in cabin 9. It was fine. A bit worn but very comfortable and clean enough. Plenty of towels, clean sheets, hot water. We used the pool and hot tub. They are also nice. Lots of kids, but that's to be expected. Only problem was the stove. Two of the burners didn't work, but the oven and other two stove tops burners were fine. We cooked one night and ate out the other two. Doogers was good. The Lightship was so-so. The first day the weather was great and we saw both lighthouses at Cape Disappointment. The second day we went to the other side of the pennisula to see that side. A muddy trek but very picturesque. The beach was great for the dogs. However, by today it was very windy and the electricity went out overnight. But it is November. All and all a good stay. Next time I will splurge and go for one of the condos.

Comfortable, contemporary, very clean accommodation -- and the website allows you to see the interior and ocean view of every unit, so you know what you're getting when you reserve your room. These shingle-sided buildings are set at an angle to the coastline so each unit has an ocean view. The entire facility (with the exception of the strip of rather rundown cottages that must have been the 1940's manifestation of this enterprise) is well off the highway, so you're not going to hear any road noise, just the gentle roar of the ocean (or louder, if you decide to sleep with the bedroom window slightly ajar as we did). We reserved our unit rather last minute for the Cranberrian Festival so had to choose the "hindmost" unit on the top floor, but still had a lovely view from our living area, enjoying the coziness of the gas fireplace. The buildings are surrounded by lawn, with a few hundred feet of pristine sand dunes, with foot paths, between you and the gorgeous sandy beach. The pool/spa facility is attached to the office building, which is between the lodging units and the highway. Coffee packets were provided for the coffeemaker and you could order fresh-baked cranberry scones (extra cost, I think) by 7 p.m. for delivery the next morning, but we had already purchased some delicious Danish pastries from the bakery in Long Beach so passed on those. We will never stay anywhere else on the Long Beach Peninsula!!!!!
