Read the small print --there are lots of add ons in the small print. The manager and staff are not helpful at all and actually are very very rude. Several items in rooms did not work, but no help there either, Call ahead for REAL price, becuase it gets much larger than the quoted rate. The room stinks life fake perfume, and my daughter sneezed the whole time. The walls are very thin. It is close to the beach and the beds were okay. I would not stay here again. This is very low budget.

What you booked on line is the rate you get. What you book through us is the rate you get. All information is repeated back to you twice through out the reservation process. We do not jack add on fees. However if you bring extra adults there is a fee for additional adults above 2, please till us the number of correct adults. Please till us of your pets. Do not sneak them in; there will be a fee for that especially if it is a non pet room. So please be honest and till us the truth.
We strive to maintain the quality of cleanliness and functionality of our rooms. We follow choices guidelines of a maintenance program 2 times a year and deep cleaning program, includes steam cleaning, 1 time a year. We have a maintenance person on the premises 24hr a day. Please let us know when things do not work so we can fix them for the next guest, if no one tells us we do not know and it wont get fixed (it is not a bother to us if you tell us, we will thank you and take care of it).
If you are sensitive to cleaning chemicals please tell us, we will specialize your room for your needs.

Basically the Hotel staff including the Manager refused to accept any responsibility for problems that came up between what Hotels.com and what they could provide. First of all we requested a non smoking room and according to the hotel manager Hotels.com will give you a smoking room if that is all that is available. The next issue was the price I was given which I still have the confirmation was $89 and the hotel charged me $14 more plus tax. I did not have the email confirmation with me but when I did after I returned home the hotel manager said that because I signed the check in there was nothing they could do and made the excuse that Hotels.com gets 20% commission on the room so they are not making that much to start with. As I told the Manager it was too bad that over $14 they would loose a future customer and also have somebody that would have otherwise reccomended their hotel, telling people to stay somewhere else. Bottom line is check the small print and verify before signing if using Hotels.com and this Hotel

When you reserve a smoking room, and not a non-smoking room, that is what you get. Hotel.com does not change rooms on you. If we had a non-smoking room we would gladly move you to a non-smoking room.

If you reserve a room with 4 adults, it is customary to quote you the rate for double occupancy example: $89.95 for double occupancy (2 adults – 2 beds) with a statement that additional people would cost more.

In making reservations on the internet, you are picking the type of room (smoking, non-smoking, # of beds, # of people). The internet sites do not change your reservations, what you select is what you get. This is a contract and you are agreeing with what you picked. You need to be sure that this is what you really want. We try our best to fix any problem, if you messed up. If you do have a printout that is different than what you selected, the sight that you booked with would address the problem. If your print out shows you select a smoking room with four adults, that is what you get.

It is un-ethical to threaten a business with a bad review if you can not get your way. Furthermore, it is unethical to use a review as a means to get discounts.

We stayed during the annual Kite Festival with our family and enjoyed evry moment. The heated pool was a plus as well as the vending area for snacks and doing laundry when you need to wash clothes. The staff was helpful in suggesting places to eat or go see, but we mostly came to see the kites which were barely a 10 min walk to the beach! The prices were reasonable, the rooms were clean, and the staff reallly nice. We would come back and stay here again for sure!

We booked two Double rooms for two Families with 2 Kids each. And although they had no Non-Smoker rooms anymore we could get a smoking room that wasn't really bad. You could hardly smell anything. The Beds were OK, We had a TV that worked fine and the Bathroom was clean and fine. The Manager was a really nice and helpfull person. Same for the other employees. They offered help and any information they could. The Hotel has a heated Pool that might be usefull for Kids if you stay for a couple more days. Or if you want to let the Kids swim after coming back from the Beach. The Beach is 5 minutes away (or 2 min with the Car) It is allowed to drive on the Beach if you dare (4x4 recommended) - The only negative thing was, that some People closed the doors at night so loud and hard that the wall and my bed shaked. I woke up since my haed hit the Bedframe so hard. So if you want a quiet place where you get lots of sleep - you should probablly find another place. Breakfast was really not the best and you have to pick it up and bring it to your room. But Hot chocolade and Coffe is free all day. I would recommend it for one to three nights only.

  • Liked — Very central and close to beach
  • Disliked — It was load and the walls are really really thin

My family (2 adults and 2 small children and 1 small dog) stayed here June 1st for 2 nights. The room was clean and big. The breakfast was great. Coffee, juice, donuts and bagels plus all the trimmings. Free newspaper and the pool was open and clean. The staff was nice and friendly and helped with restaurant recommendations. I would stay here again diffidently. Plus great location, right on the main drag (street) and one block to the ocean.

Not fancy but cheap and clean and nice for a family on a budget. Stay here and spend your money on a nice dinner out.

We stumbled upon this gem by accident. Drove past it and just stopped in. We don't look for much in a room, just quiet and clean and cozy. The Shaman met all of those and more. It was very well priced, the bed was very comfortable. You could "hear" the ocean from our room, they never claimed ocean "view". We did take advantage of the supplied log for our fireplace, and fell asleep to the glow of our fireplace next to our bed. The ocean was a short 30 second drive. Management was outstanding. We almost stayed a couple of nights here because we enjoyed it and the area so much, but time got the best of us and we had to push on. Highly recommend the Shaman.

We booked the Shaman because there seemed to be no major hotel chains in the Long Beach, WA area and the website and price appealed to us. When we made the reservation, we specifically requested an "ocean view" room.

Upon arrival, check in was a breeze and the people working behind the counter were extremely friendly and very helpful in suggesting restaurants as well as attractions in the area and in Astoria, OR -- our next stop.

The room was very simple, but clean, with little to no design upgrades. We had a wood-burning fireplace, but because that required an open window and we were at the Shaman in March, we chose to forego that "luxury." That was disappointment number one. The next came at the expense of our alleged ocean view... which turned out to be non-existent. What we had was view of a large patch of naked trees, beyond which lay the ocean (we found out). I suppose it's an ocean view if you're Superman and have X-ray Vision and can see through the trees.

Still, the motel was clean and comfortable and located centrally amidst Long Beach's small main strip, with easy access to a grocery store, restaurants (we loved Dooger's) and, most importantly, its beautiful beach. I would suggest it for those looking to spend a few days relaxing by the water without spending a fortune.
