“Great Chowder”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 7, 2013

I debated how many dots to give this one and finally decided on 4 with the caveat that this is based on the type of establishment it is which is a cafe and bar. We stopped in after a ride for a beverage and found ourselves having the chowder which was billed as award winning. I believe it! The chowder was creamy without being paste-like. There were lovely chunks of potato and sweet salty bacon but more than anything else there was a bounty of fresh local clam chunks that were still perfectly tender. Amazing. We tried some of the fresh shooters made from the local oysters. Yes, wonderful. Then sampled the coconut shrimp. Still tasty and above average because the sweet chili sauce served with it had a wonderful balance of sweet and heat. Pricing was more than fair and the selection of beverages was good. Definitely worth a try.

“lunch/drinks”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 27, 2013

after visiting several little stores in town, we stopped in for Mai-Tais and food. Excellent bar and restaurant, nice atmosphere and family friendly - even though we ate in the bar. The menu was excellent offering a variety of seafood and normal fare

“Overrated!!!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed May 26, 2013

The Wife and I chose this place over others based on reviews we had read prior to our trip! Their was only one server at Dinner Time, so of course their was a wait! The prices are above average based on their portions, example: The Shrimp Louie- what a joke of a dish! Even Happy Hour Appetizers were nothing to speak of, referring to what you pay for versus what you receive! I guess that explains why the drinks were good and strong to make you forget about what really matters! Steer clear!

“Casual eatery”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 19, 2013

We stopped in for a quick dinner and were seated quickly, even though they were fairly full. The appetizers were good and while on the happy hour menu, a good value. The mixed drinks were adequate at best, so I would stay away from them. The shrimp salad was great and it was fresh. They had a special for a steak and veggies on the happy hour menu and it was a good deal. The veggies were cooked to perfection and the steak was much better than you would expect for a "special" If you can try not to get seated by the back of the bar as the smell from the deep fryer was a little strong. The service was average, but adequate. I would eat there again if I sat more to the front.

“Fish & Chips”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 10, 2013

When we stay in Long Beach, we usually eat at Castaway's for
they have the best fish & chip, handcut fries & very good
coleslaw. The steamer clams are fantastic but a wee bit pricey!
