Our first room smelled very bad the front desk lady came and agreed it smelled very bad and moved us to another room. It also smelled bad but we went and bought some air fresheners. We paid for two nights but it was so nasty and gross we woke up and left but was told they couldn't refund our money.

We had a Groupon deal so we made the 4+ hour drive to Long Beach Washington. I will never return to the Chautauqua Lodge. I am not even sure where to start. We checked in at the front desk and noted that everything was really old looking. The desk clerk directed us to our room on the second floor and told us the elevator was not currently working. I have a bad knee but thought that one floor up would not be too bad. We drove over to the building our room was in and unloaded our dogs (the only positive was they allowed us to bring three small dogs instead of just two as their policy states). We took them for a short walk and realized that you could not see or hear the ocean. We were shocked by what we found when we went to our room. It seemed clean, but was disgusting. It was a no smoking room but there were cigarette burns on all the counters, the bedspread was so bad I would not even sit on it, the upholstery on the chairs was worn thru and torn, the room smelled "old", the gas fireplace did not work (found out later none of them had worked for a year according to the desk clerk) and the "ocean view" was a barely discernible blue line on the horizon. When we went back down to lobby there was another guest there that had to go get her own ice bucket (none in the room) and she was complaining about the elevator, the fireplaces and that the wifi did not work. The desk clerk shrugged it off and asked when they had called since that stuff had not worked for a while. When it was our turn we informed the clerk that we would not be staying and we wanted a refund of our pet fees ($110). She asked if we would like a deluxe room for the same price. We looked at two and they were not better, just larger. The beds felt terribly uncomfortable, the elevator still did not work (still have a bad knee) and we would be a floor higher, the fireplace and wifi still would not work and the view still sucked. We went back to the lobby and heard another gentleman tell the clerk that the some detector in his room was not working. We got our refund and drove the 4+ hours back home.....Very DISAPPOINTING....

Room Tip: We saw three rooms and they were all terrible. One of the "deluxe" rooms had a breakfast c...

It is true - the lodge is a bit dated. But it was clean and the staff was extremely pleasant and helpful. This was our first trip with our dog and it worked out perfectly. They gave us a ground floor room so taking her out late and early was very easy. It is close to the Discovery trail and just over the dunes from the ocean. We stayed Sunday and Monday during a major storm so had the place pretty much to ourselves. The only thing that would have made it better would be a small fridge and microwave. The room was large and comfortable.

This place a little older but kept up pretty good. We stayed in a one bedroom suite. Pretty nice and very inexpensive! Kitchen didn't have an oven but no big deal. The onsite restaurant has amazing food. Clam chowder was the best in Long Beach, friendly staff great atmosphere. Lit fireplace even a pool table. It also has a large swimming pool and hot tub. Pet Friendly. You cant go wrong staying there. The wi fi doesnt work to well but no big deal. I would recommend this place to anybody.

We stayed in a standard suite on the third floor that was pet friendly. Was updated newer bedding, flat screen in living room area. Was a perfect place for my family. Had a queen bed in living area for my husband and I. A single and double in the bedroom for our kids. Stay in a suite they must be more updated then the hotel. People shouldn't complain about this place your pay 89.00, 99.00, 109.00 for a place that has a bedroom living area kitchen and 2 bathrooms. We will stay there again. I posted pics of the suite we stayed in.

Room Tip: Stay in a suite we stayed in the standard suite on the third floor. Standard and deluxe would be the...

My family was so well cared for here - we arrived very late and they still went out of their way to make sure we were comfortable and happy. The location is great, the rates fantastic, super place for a fun break for kids!

Room Tip: best to get an upper floor if you can. Quieter and better view.

We stayed here because my friend booked it for everyone to stay for her wedding. I got really nervous when I read the reviews and thought about canceling. I am really glad we didn't! It was perfect for what we wanted and we have no complaints.
The room was clean and had a great view. We were on the third floor and could hear the surf in the storm. The room had a microwave, refrigerator and coffee maker. It definitely wasn't fancy--no flat screen tv (a perfectly adequate 19 inch or so television) and the carpeting was kind of old. The bedspreads were from the 70's. There aren't any elevators. If you are looking for high end you should not stay here. If you want to pay a decent price to be right on the beach in a clean and comfortable room then this is the place for you.
I have no idea who people interacted with when they had such a negative experience. I mostly dealt with a woman who was very interested in chatting with the guests. I thought she might have been the owner by the way she was helping everyone--turns out she has been working there 10 weeks and really enjoys working with people. We didn't have anything we needed her help with, but she was completely pleasant and accommodating. She even gave us a (very) late checkout with no problem. I would absolutely return to this place!
