My husband and I had dinner at Cafe Mozart and it was simply amazing. We had been told that the appetizers were quite large and decided to make a meal out of several of them. We ended up ordering the international fried cheese sampler, Escargots de Bourgogne Sauvages and the Pastas Kaesespaetzle “au gratin”. The three items together were plenty for the two of us to share as a meal. If we had added dessert we would have been over stuffed.
The escargot and au gratin spetzel were simply amazing!!! And while the cheese plate was good, it was not what I expected and I would pass if given the chance again. I have NEVER had escargot so delicate and soft. The sauce was simply brilliant and I soaked up every last drop with the soft pretzel style bread it was served in. The spetzel (kaesespaetzle) was cheesy goodness topped with the perfect salty fried onions. Absolutely superb! The fried cheese sampler had three delicious cheeses and both the lingonberry and marinara dipping sauces were good, but I was a little let down. The hunks of fried cheese were just large, maybe 1/4lb each dipped whole and fried. It was awkward and clunky and made me feel very heavy just eating "bricks" of cheese. I would have loved it a lot more had they been in smaller cubes with individual dipping sticks....more like a fondue style serving.
The atmosphere was nice and interesting to the eye and the wait staff was spot on. When in Leavenworth, don't miss this wonderful restaurant.
