“awful experience”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed December 29, 2005

We rented the innkeepers cottage for two weeks and found it an awful experience. The place was in poor condition. The fireplace flue didnt shut, the showers flooded the bathroom floor anytime you used it, to turn the heat off you had to flip the circuit breaker, the cottage was covered with dusty fake plants, and the whole place seemed rather unclean. They didnt clean our room or change the linens the entire time we were there. Their web site and signs boast an english pub, a weekly supper club, afternoon tea, and hi-fi access none of which the inn offered when we were there.Langley has some wonderful inns, Ashington Manor is not one of them.

This quest checked into our Innkeepers Cottage for one month and checked out after two weeks. Our rental rate for two weeks is almost the same as our monthly rate. The quest expected the monthly rate to be prorated and was upset even though our rates and conditions are posted on our website.
The condition of our property was never an issue in this situation or any other, as you can see from our other reviews.

My husband and I choose to stay in Bed and Breakfasts wherever we go as we find them to be more personal and comfortable than commercial hotels, so we have enough experience to compare and rate bed and breakfast inns confidently. Ashingdon Manor is simply the most fabulous establishment we haveever come across!

We stayed there August of 2005 for a weekend- initially attracted by their great website & pictures of the Inn, but it’s much more beautiful than the website photos suggest. First of all, the grounds are stunning, the manor is gorgeous, the interior design is beautiful. But the best part is the privacy. The rooms are in a separate side of the Manor with it's own entrance and private sitting area in front of a fireplace.

The room we stayed in had a view of the pond and a Jacuzzi tub as well! All of the rooms have fireplaces and the innkeeper was so nice as to give me a tour of the other rooms. All are gorgeous with an incredible detail to quality linens, down duvets, bath robes, etc.

And the breakfasts: simply outstanding. Like I said, this is not your typical B&B. The breakfast was gourmet- eggs benedict one day; huge pancakes with blueberries & raspberries the next. The table was set beautifully and the other guests we met were as impressed as we were.

The little town of Langley has gorgeous art galleries, quaint shops and boutiques, all with Puget Sound/mountain views and we plan to visit again. Don't forget to go wine tasting as there are some exceptional wines made on Whidbey Island. No matter what you do, you must stay at Ashingdon Manor as that is the main attraction!!

You just can't do better than Ashingdon Manor. I've stayed at many a B&B over the years and have to say that the combination of beautiful setting/location, exquisite rooms/amenities, value and high touch service offered by a classy couple of entertaining proprietors makes Ashingdon my top pick.

Just down the road from charming Langley (awesome antiquing), the location is just where you want to be. While not in the midst of town, you can be in a few minutes drive - or a 15 minute walk.

The rooms (very fairly priced) have all been concieved, designed and hand decorated by Jennifer Johnson, a most gracious proprietress. Take special note of the stunning draperies and bedding - she made each and every one by hand. (Sorry, they are not for sale). And Jennifer's cooking (she's a former professional chef) will make you want to loiter near the kitchen. Eggs Benedict - ooh la la!

Chuck, Jennifer's partner in all this, pretty much built the whole place by hand. You will be impressed, especially with the pond (lake?) in the front of the property. He built it himself. Yes, dug a big hole and put water in it. You will be amazed.

Finally, I'm not huge fan of huge dogs but have modified my views somewhat since my visit. You will meet the biggest (220lbs), sweetest mastiff outside the English moors. Her name is Sarah and you can't miss her - but you will when you leave.

In all, this is a "must do" B&B. You just can't beat the combination of great warm and witty hosts, scrumptious food and sumptous suites. Such a wonderful place to return after a long day of exploring Whidbey Island.

My husband and I stayed at Ashingdon Manor for a quick overnight getaway to Whidbey Island. Our hosts were wonderful and served a delicious breakfast. The room was well-appointed and cozy. It was close to Langley, definetly the most quaint town on the island. The grounds were lovely and the other guests were friendly. Water pressure could've have been a bit more, but that was about the only negative. Go! Go now!
