“Welcome back!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 2, 2014

Not sure what Brian M was talking about when he referred to the Palmers as wannabe restauranteur bringing Seattle to a small town or when he said that Nell Thorn's had sold out and become a tourist attraction? Neither is true, relevant or true and the last thing anyone would want to do is turn La Conner into Seattle :-) That said it's great to have the Palmer's back, their new restaurant and menu are a welcome addition. We ate in the bar and I can't find one negative, it was quiet, private, warm and welcoming. Our food was brought to our table in a timely manner, everything was amazing and the portions were perfect. So much so that we had room for dessert! No complaints here, will plan to go back soon and take my daughter.

“A little bit of France in La Conner”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 26, 2014 via mobile

This restaurant obviously knows how to serve wonderful tasty food. This is the place to come to if you want great tasting food in a nice atmosphere and not feel rushed. Kyle, our bar tender, knows how to make clients feel welcomed. We had a leisurely lunch with raw oysters as an appetizer, followed by steam clams and steak as the main, and we shared the grand marnier, and then a double espresso. Wonderful, wonderful.

“What a nice return to La Conner”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 22, 2014

This restaurant just opened in La Conner in the old Nell Thorn space at the La Conner Country Inn space. After a week from opening, the food served and the service offered is the same quality that came from their former restaurant on Chuckanut Drive before they relocated back to La Conner. The salmon and halibut we had was fresh and properly prepared (not by grill) on a bed of corn and kale with potatoes and apple. The saucing was mild and tasty and the presentation superb. All ingredients were clearly fresh. The salads were fresh and abundant. Situated in the heart of the Skagit Valley, they have used the local fresh farm to table concept to great advantage. Thomas Palmer had long been a fixture of the restaurant business in La Conner. All will welcome his return. Thankfully, it may take a while for this spot to be rediscovered. In the meantime, we intend to enjoy before the crowds show up.

“Absolute must visit in La Conner!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 20, 2014

We visit La Conner once a year and always look forward to the beauty of the landscape and the charm of the town. This trip we were lucky enough to arrive on the second night of business for the Oyster and Thistle, a wonder of a gastro-pub with a French twist. The menu is locally sourced and seasonal, and each dish was made to order. My mussels were fresh enough to taste of sea and salt, and the signature oyster stew had a lovely lightness rare in a cream base soup, brightened with fresh tarragon. The walnut, fig and gorgonzola salad was a treat, a perfect pairing of sharp and sweet. My husband had a house-made lobster ravioli that was the best we have ever tasted. The wines were equally brilliant, in particular a Rousanne that we drank far too much of! This delightful fusion of pub-style and bistro is a must visit for all foodies. We will be making a special return visit just to sample a few more items in the menu.

“Walked into by accident on opening night. Amazing experience!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 18, 2014

We are visiting Seattle and the surrounding areas and heard about this little charming town called La Conner. We walked around until evening and started to look for a place to eat. We checked out all the restaurants briefly and then saw this restaurant on a back street off of the main drag. It looked rustic and inviting and we decided to go look at the menu. Turns out they had a soft opening the previous night and we had arrived at their official opening night completely by accident. The interior was very warm and inviting with open windows with cool air drifting in and nice rustic overtones throughout. Soft ambient music was playing in the background to complete a very relaxing dining interior. They have a cute pub and lounge area downstairs and the main dining area is upstairs with great window seating. We decided to stay and try it out.

My wife and I ordered decaf coffee which came out in a French press. It was excellent. We then received complimentary homemade flatbread slices with an olive spread that I honestly can say is the best I have ever had. After those treats homemade fresh bread and butter arrived at our table which was also extremely fresh and excellent.

I ordered their seared scallops with a creamy risotto and asparagus side dish and my wife tried their Dungeness crab ravioli. Both dishes had excellent presentation and the flavors were absolutely amazing. We finished off dinner with their homemade chocolate lava cake with a few scoops of ice cream and once again another excellent item.

The service was very friendly and excellent. My wife and I felt immediately welcome.

What an excellent surprise this was for us. If we are ever in the La Conner area again we absolutely will go back here. This restaurant has the whole package. Excellent atmosphere, outstanding food and very good customer service. Thanks for a great night!
