This stay was one for the books, plumbing-wise. Faced with a malfunctioning toilet in our room, my husband reported the problem to the front desk, and was told there was no one available to deal with this. So he asked if they at least had a plunger we could use. The clerk said, "No." My husband then asked, "How about a new room?" She replied,"We'll look for a plunger." A few minutes later she called back to say they had found a plunger, which he could pick up at the desk. He trotted down, brought the plunger back to the room, and fixed the toilet. A short time later, the desk clerk called to ask how things were. I told her things were okay now. She then asked if we could leave the plunger outside our room, because another guest had need of one!

Not the sort of service you'd expect from a three-star (or any) hotel.

My wife and I are Hilton Diamond HHonors members. We stayed at this property in mid-October. Making our reservation was a snap on Hilton's web-site. The property is conveniently located off a main road (with many dining and shopping options) and across the street from the Toyota Arena. if you're traveling through the Tri-Cities on I-82, it takes only minutes to reach this property. Having stayed at both this HGI property and the Hampton Hotel, we have opted for the Hilton Garden Inn for a number of reasons, including the f act that you don't get attacked by flies at the HGI like you do at the Hampton, and that the HGI is a newer physical plant with updated features.

Oddly, guest rooms at this HGI (or at least the ones we've had on our five or six visits) are smaller than at any other HGI properties we've ever stayed at. Rooms have everything a guest would need, from a micro-fridge, microwave oven, coffee maker, to no-charge high-speed internet service. Our room was clean but not spotless as we're used to finding at HGI's. Bedding was comfortable if conventional (no comforters like we have had at a number of other HGI locations).

For less than US$90, our room rate made this property an acceptable overall value and we will stay here again.

  • Liked — Location; overall value for rate paid
  • Disliked — Rooms are starting to show wear; could be cleaner
  • Tips/Secrets: — Ask for room on top floor in "back" (away from the arena) to cut down on noise

There were 4 adults and one child traveling together (a last-minute trip).

The location is in a busy part of town (right across the street from the Columbia Center/behind Applebee's restaurant), but the hotel is down a side street set back on a yet to be developed road. There were few street lights and on our first attempt to find the street we passed it. If you're traveling at dark - watch out so you don't pass your street (this is not the hotel's fault). We back-tracked and found our road - and discovered a great place to stay.

The hotel desk clerk was friendly, and he served us well. We got 4 keys without any hesitation. There was a platter of free cookies on the check-in counter which my hungry nephew loved.

We arrived rather late in the evening and found our room to be spectactular. It still had that "new" smell ... maybe it was the new paint or wallpaper. Everything was clean and perfect.

Our room had a mini fridge and a microwave. The room was built deep and sort of narrow. However it had PLENTY of room for all 5 of us. Our price with taxes was $110 (a bargain for 2 couples).

We plugged our laptop in and took advantage of the free internet service. That way one of our travelers could catch up on his work away from the office. The internet was very fast.

My nephew and I spent the better part of our evening in the indoor pool/hot tub (no other guests came in). The hot tub was your standard size (could fit about 8). It was clean and the right temperature. The pool was rather small and shallow. The entire pool was about 4.5 ft. deep at the max. It was extremely cold (which was great after a dip in the hot tub). There were generous towel racks in the pool room too. We brought a few of them to our room for use in the morning. Even though there was a "closing time" sign up, nobody bothered to tell us to get out of the pool after it closed.

We didn't eat at the restaurant or bar, but liked the option of having something close.

The sitting area in the lobby was very welcoming with a fireplace and overstuffed chairs.

I felt like I was treated to a classy night out - I plan to stay here again when I come to visit my relatives.

  • Liked — I liked that the room was very clean and came at an inexpensive rate.
  • Disliked — The pool was small.
  • Tips/Secrets: — Traveling at night - watch out so you don't pass the road to the motel. One road entrance is well lit, the other road was not lit and hard to find.

I have stayed at this Hilton twice for conventions in the Toyota Arena across the street. The staff was very helpful, rooms clean and attractive, and the A/C worked well in the 110 degree heat wave that week. For my purposes, I was very comfortable and found the location extremely convenient. Very close to restaurants and stores, only a block away from the main strip. Will stay there again!

  • Liked — Decor & cleanliness, comfort of room.
  • Disliked — A little high priced, small indoor pool.

Let me start by saying that I am a Hilton Diamond VIP HHonors member, so I think I'm qualified to comment on a Hilton-family property. The only words that come to mind in describing this poor-excuse for a motel are "shabby", "inept", and "guest-unfriendly".
The actual proeprty is a standard multi-story Hilton Garden Inn located just off a main street (plenty of shopping and restauarnts nearby) and directly across the street from the "Toyota Arena". Lobby and other common areas are in pretty good shape. The motel does have a small business center with two inter-net capable PC's.
My problems with this property center on (a) desk staff and (b) rooms.
I have never, in all my 18 years as an HHonors member, ever encountered such inept, arrogant, indifferent desk staff who are uniformly indifferent to guests. In each of my last (and ONLY) three stays at this property, the motel had either "lost", "eliminated from there reservation system, or mismanaged my confirmed reservation; whether with respect to agreed-to rate, type or location of room, type of bedding, or my requests for non-smoking rooms, these people just don't seem to be able to "get it". Each time I would bring issues to the attention of desk staff (keeping in mind that I didn't want - and couldn't have cared less about - getting the room "comped". . .I only wanted the problem fixed) the only response I ever got was the "deer-in-the-headlights" look and a mumbled explanation that there is/was nothing they could do.
The rooms themselves are equipped as all Hilton garden Inns: a fairly comfortable matress, microfridge, microwave, coffee maker, small screen TV with remote. All of these things Hilton Garden Inns do well and represent reasons I stay at these properties when I can.
The rooms at this property, however, at least on the three occasions I stayed there, each had what I can only descrbe as a "dusty" or extremely "musty" odor and environment.
For those of you who are loyal Hilton frequest guests and/or HHonors members, there is another Hilton proeprty located nearby, a Hampton Inn. It's an older property, but it's located right on the river and is an OK alternative to the Garden Inn.
In a telephone conversation with the property's still "new" general manager, I made it clear that I would not and will never stay at this Hilton Garden Inn again. Period.
