“Amazing museum in an amazing place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 31, 2012

Who'd of thunk that you could find such a place in such a remote location. The museum is wonderful, a very eclectic collection. While out of the way, this and the winery next door are worth the time and effort to get there.

“We really enjoyed this museum!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 17, 2012

WE haven't gone in an art museum for awhile so we decided to visit this one. We got there a little before they opened so we went onto the lawn area and checked out all the sculptures. Beautiful work. I especially liked the horse made out of gears. When they opened we went inside and started going through. The items of Queen Marie of Romania were absolutely beautiful. They had a lot of her furniture. I found the chess collection to be amazing! I had no idea there were that many different chess sets and that so many countries play chess. The art work was nice and I in particular liked one artist whose work looked so alive on the canvas. The Native American exhibit is really nice and they have a lot of things. We found it a very pleasurable visit and I would definitely tell people to include this in their activities while visiting thise area.

Excellent Art Museum in the middle of the country? Here it is. Great private art collection including exposition of Augusto Rodin. Located in beatiful building on cliff over Columbia River Gorge with astonishing view.

“Eclectic museum”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 1, 2012

I have wanted to visit this museum for awhile - but it is somewhat out of the way. This time we were driving from Boise, ID to Astoria, OR - so Maryhill was on the way. The collection is somewhat eclectic - Art Deco furniture donated by Queen Marie of Romania in the 1920's, an excellent collection of Rodin sculptures, also donated by Queen Marie, a nice, small Native American collection very well displayed, and a French mannequin fashion gallery from 1945 (due to WW II, instead of live models, fashion designers showed their creations on wire mannequins). This latter was actually quite fascinating. Oh - there was also an outdoor sculpture garden. In all, it was well worth stopping. (It's also a AAA Gem).

“Museum on the River”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 31, 2012

The Museum is situated beside the Columbia River and has stunning views. It has very attractive grounds/gardens. The admission was a little pricey for the volume of art. Although the collection was nice enough, we would have been just as happy to wander around the garden looking at the natural beauty of the location and the outdoor sculptures.
