“Engaged last weekend here”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 3, 2012

I spent the better part of three months planning on my proposal to my girlfriend and it centered around getting engaged here. They had a change in ownership about 2.5 months ago and started the process of discussing how I planned to do it with Hiedi Olson who was part of the transitiion and an absolute amazing woman.(Thank You). I had spent 3 months taking pictures of all my dates with my girlfriend or important milestones. Her meeting my son, me meeting her girls, first kiss, romatic getaways and blew them up and printed in black in white matted 11x17. My plan was to go do photography in the Hoh rainforest with her hit Ruby Beach and head back to our caibin. She would walk in to our cabin (14) and see from left to our dates with twinkling candles get down on one knee and ask.

Sara Jean- Terry, Marsha, thank you for not only making this happen but doing a better job than i envisioned. We had cabin 14 which was absolutely perfect. The view was amazing. It was a cute 2 bedroom tastefully decorated and a little kitchenette. I love to cook and it worked great. Upon checkin I was treated like royalty and made to feel special. I believe I was bowed down too at one point. :) We had an awesome day out doing photgraphy and came back to our cabin. My girlfirend was blown away, I got on one knee and for the life of me really dont remember what I said , nor does she. She was skaking as was I and it was sheer happiness. i wont go into more details about the engagement but will share about the facility.

Cabin was clean and wonderful. Fireplace is a nice additon and they give you bundles of wood to enjoy. The matresses are knew as are the linens and comforters. I did not see any sign of mice. We did have no hot water when we got there, but it was resolved in 15 min. They have earthquake sensors that disable it that a bird seems to have hit.

The view from your bed is awesome and we happend to have brought camping chairs and a minor heater and watched a storm rolling in and drank champagne in celebration.

Staff was incredible and so thoghtful and helpful. It could not have been more awesome.

all i can say is thank you for making last weekend one of the most memorable of my life.

Michael

“Lovely but could be better”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 30, 2012

Beautiful location but no competition within 50 miles shows. Having become used to effusive American greetings at check in we were a bit astonished by the cool reception here. "A week" in answer to my question "how long do you think it will rain for?" was not very cheering. Room was ok and restaurant ok too (breakfast was much better than dinner). Although a Wifi hotspot was advertised we were told it didn't work. There was a room with games and a tv but the fire was not lit. Shame because it could have been a fun social hub. We were so bored in the evening that we resorted to foot massages. Fun but doable at home.
Cabins looked regimented but ok too.
Might have been completely different in sunshine? Ruby Beach was magnificent.

“Get a cabin, if you can.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 26, 2012

The Kalaloch was one of the only places I booked in advance of my road trip along the 101, and perhaps I was just expecting too much based on other reviews. Don't get me wrong, this place was pretty nice, but I opted for the cheaper lodge room instead of my own cabin. I know what "lodges" are compared to a hotel, so it's not like I was expecting room service and television. But this place seemed to be all about the view, and the lodge just didn't have the ocean view I expected. While I could see the Pacific, my primary view was of a rather ugly tidal basin full of driftwood and mud. If you'd never seen the ocean before, I could see how this would be spectacular. But compared to the other amazing views of the coast along the 101, this seemed like an odd place to build.

Anyway, my room was very clean, comfortable, had the usual amenities, and was ultimately very relaxing. As the lodge is built entirely of wood, and based on its age, every movement and sound made by anyone else (including the full-service restaurant directly below my room) was amplified. The restaurant was very nice though, and Dylan was a spectacular host!

But get a cabin if you can. Your view will be better, you'll be closer to the path to the beach, and you won't hear everything everyone around you is doing.

“Great views - but”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed October 15, 2012

We spent two nights in cabin number 5 last week. The staff were all very nice and the view was spectacular. I could only give it a two for several reasons. We were told our cabin would have a fireplace. This was important to us, and unfortunately, it did not. They were unable to relocate us to a cabin with a fireplace. Since our last visit the bushes were allowed to grow up above the fence which meant that you could not see the beach while sitting in your cabin or on your patio which had been one of our favorite things to do.

We understood that it would be rustic and we have stayed in many lodges etc. that were described as rustic. There is charming rustic and then there is utilitarian rustic - which describes this cabin. No charm whatsoever.

The location is wonderful and we would probably go back for that alone, but it is highly overpriced for what you receive. We would not pay for a bluff cabin again unless the shrubbery was cut down so you could actually see the beach.

“Perfect for lunch”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 14, 2012

Stopped here for lunch one rainy day during our drive between Lake Quinault and Forks. Just a fantastic view (even with the rain) and great ambiance to enjoy a mid-day meal. I had a bowl of chowder and my wife had a salad which she still talks about today. Both meals were really good and were, in fact, some of our better meals of the trip. Two thumbs up for the lunch we enjoyed at Kalaloch.
