Our experience booking at Scotty's Motel was extremely disappointing. The room was booked via the online booking system over a week before going, for a double room for one night which I was booking for my parents, with another night booked the following week. It was stated as a budget room, and credit card details were taken at the time of booking. 6 hours before arrival, I emailed the hotel to check the payment had been cleared and my parents wouldn't need to pay, but I did not get a reply. On arrival, the very rude receptionist insisted on the payment from my parents, stating the booking system took the payment and she didn't get it. She then stated "when I saw you I could see you're not suitable to go to the budget room" as it was upstairs and in a poorer condition: air conditioning did not work, windows could not be opened, stuffy room on a hot evening. She then insisted that for an extra $15 they would get a better room. As this was late in the evening, they did not have a choice with this. She made judgements about my parent's age, physical ability and literacy skills (when they are both literate and physically able!), and she was unfortunately very difficult to understand herself due to her heavy accent. The upgrade room was comfortable and on the ground floor, although my parents report that the sheets were stained!! so poor cleanliness. My parents were disappointed by her attitude and cancelled second booking.
