“Terrific!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 13, 2013

We had a wonderful stay at the Blue Heron in July. We were on our bicycles to tour all the islands. Breakfast was great every morning, even the day we left early to catch a ferry home there was a bagged breakfast for us to consume on the ferry. The room was clean and comfortable and had a view of the ocean. Use of the fridge was super handy and the availability of glasses, coffee, tea and hot chocolate was fantastic. The hosts are super friendly and can give information on eating and anything else you might need. Deer came into the yard as we were drinking wine. Although the B&B was not in Eastsound, groceries and dinner were not inconvenient, even by bicycle. Also, the restaurant next door was delicious.

Would go back anytime!

We stayed in the Egret room for 2 nights. It has its own balcony that looks out over the harbor. The hosts were great - wonderful breakfast at the house the first morning and they prepared a bag breakfast for us the 2nd day because we had to leave early for the ferry. They've got a sweet dog, Pulaski, who welcomed us like family.

I booked this B&B because I thought it was located in Eastsound, the hub of Orcas Island. Though it's address says Eastsound, it actually is in Westsound, 15 minutes by car from Eastsound, a significant difference when what you want is to walk to shops and restaurants from the B&B. There is nothing around the inn, walking-wise. Carol was very hospitable and packed us a delicious breakfast because we had to leave early for the ferry. i am not a dog person, so I always notice dog/pet smell in the house when I visit friends and family. This place has a faint dog smell.
Though the hosts were charming and helpful, I would not stay here again.

If you are traveling with a dog and want to enjoy Orcas Island - this is the ticket. Owners, Carol and Bogden were wonderful hosts - they even endulged me in wonderful gluten free breakfast creations. My dog was warmly welcomed by their wonderful dog, Pulaski. My room had dog a dog bed, sheets to cover my bed so the dog could sleep on it, dog water and food bowls and a nice fenced in yard. The inn is right on the road so there is some traffic noise but for the most part I heard the waves, geese, local peacocks and the wonderful sounds of nature. 3 of the 4 rooms have private balconies - you can leavethe balcony door open at night allowing a cool breeze off the water. My dog and I had a great time and look forward to returning.

Although a nearly century-old building, the Blue Heron rooms are updated and well appointed, clean and well maintained. The location, directly across the street from deep inlet of West Sound, was perfect for our kayaking adventures. A restaurant just steps away made dinners easy when we were too tired to go further afield and the “bustling” town of East Sound, with its ample offering of small clothing and craft shops as well as a full grocery store, is only about 15 minutes away. The hamlet of West Sound is tiny and quiet, yet only about 7 minutes driving from the ferry landing on Orcas.

Carol & Bogdan were wonderful hosts, warm, friendly and helpful. They were especially accommodating when my wife and I caught colds. They are charming and engaging, sharing the history of the building and about themselves. The B&B is warmly decorated in a nautical theme with historic photos of the area and their families. Breakfasts were delicious, unique and varied each morning. We had a wonderful visit and look forward to returning in the future.

Room Tip: We had a chance to see all of the rooms. The Egret, Walrus and Pelican are all on the second floor...

We really enjoyed our stay at the Blue Heron. We had a lovely room with a small outdoor deck for enjoying the views of the bay. Carol and Bogden were great hosts, and were most helpful with ideas about what to do on the island. Carol made reservations for us at a local restaurant/inn for dinner, and it was a great recommendation, and somewhere we could just walk to.

Breakfast at the big table in the dining room was delicious, and made more enjoyable by the other guests we had a chance to talk with, along with Carol and Bogden.

We'd definitely stay again!

We chose Blue Heron because of its reasonable rates and great reviews on trip advisor and found out we made an excellent choice! Carol and Bogdan were wonderful hosts - very friendly and helpful. We enjoyed chatting with them! We did a lot of the free activities they recommended and had a great time and learned a lot about the island. Their breakfasts were very tasty and filling and the afternoon cookies were delicious! We will definitely return the next time we visit Orcas Island!
