“Wonderful place to stay”

Turtleback Farm Inn

My husband and I stayed at the Turtleback Farm Inn for a weekend in September 2007. The setting is lovely - green rolling farmland complete with cows, chickens, sheep and a small lake on the property. We were in the Maple View room, which had a comfortable queen size bed and nice view. Breakfast was delicious, as were the brownies available in the afternoon. The only downside is that the room is located directly above the kitchen, so there was some noise starting around 6am due to the meal preparation. (Toiletries in the room conveniently include earplugs). Be sure to take a walk around the farm. We can't wait to go back and stay in the Orchard House next time.

I stayed here for one night with two girlfriends for a little getaway. They normally have a two night min. on weekends, but they happened to have the one room that would accomodate the three of us available for one night. I had booked this room 4 months in advance and I believe they told me that there would be a family with 2 small children also staying there. Since we were not going for a "romantic weekend" I felt this would not be a problem.

When we walked in the door to check in, we were immediatly told to be quiet because they had just put the baby down for a nap. It was 3:30 in the afternoon and we had to whisper while we checked in. That was the only problem we ever had with those children, but it wasn't a very appealing welcome.

The real problem came when the other family and their 5 children came storming into the Inn at around 8:00pm while we were having a relaxing time on our patio. These people were staying in the new buliding, but decided to come down and play games, etc. Then. as we were looked over on the patio where everyone eats breakfast in the morning, the 4 year old boy urinated all over the patio. Shocked, I went into the "living room" and told the adults what had happened. They were appropiately shocked and went out and hosed the patio down, but it put a "damper" on the stay.

The Inn on a whole needs some updating. The sofa is worn and we had duct tape on our french door keeping it together. The large claw foot tub was nice. There also was a generator that came on every hour that was annoying.

For everything i have read about this place it did not own up to it.

“Not as quiet as you think”

First, let me say that everytime a less than perfect review gets written for this b&b, it does not seem to stay on this site for long... Which is really unfair and leads me to beleive that perhaps these reviews are not as "impartial" as we are led to beleive.
Having said THAT:
We did enjoy the setting at TBF. We stayed in the Orchard house which unfortunately is RIGHT on the road. Traffic does die down a bit at night, but what cars there are go whizzing by your window. The rooms are beautifully decorated and laid out. Very comfortable. The breakfast delivery was clever-deposied through a pass-through right into your kitchenette!

Our greatest dissapointment was that it seemed that NOTHING was soundproofed! Not only did we hear the people below us walking around all night, we heard every one and every thing! I think a lot of this was because the floors are all wood. This also caused every footfall to be incredibly amplified. So we got hardly any rest.

Also, we did find the innkeepers to be a bit on the grumpy side, but we could have just cought them on an off day or two.

We will never go back.

The owners and operators of Turtleback Farm Inn, Bill and Susan Fletcher, are the most hospitable and kindest people that you will ever meet! Everything about this inn is incredible: the cozy beds, the warm fire, the beautiful flowers, the quaint style and size of the rooms, the magnificent view from any of the rooms, and lest I forget the best breakfast that you'll remember eating. You truly feel at home in this idyllic setting. Its charm coupled with the superior service is one of a kind. This is a gem of a place that should not be missed.

We stayed in the Orchard House which is the newer building. We had the 2 rooms on the lower floor; each has a nice sized balcony/porch which is ideal for bird watching. The inn is in the beauticul Crow Valley. Our rooms faced the large pretty meadow with Turtleback Mountain in the backround. Rooms are spacious as are the bathrooms and many small extras are included. You feel very taken care of here. During the busy season which is July , Aug and Sept, the Orchard house guests are brought breakfast to their room and served via a small porthole type door to preserve guest privacy. I was glad that we visited in June when we were able to have breakfast in the main house. Breakfast had a friendly atmosphere was well served and every morning there is a different hot entree. This is such a fine Inn.
