“History and Music: For Free!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 11, 2014

We did not stay at the resort, but went for the 4:00 music concert (daily except Sunday) and history presentation. This is free to anyone, not just guests. The building is very interesting and has a two-floor "museum" (rather generously named). However, each day in the music room there is a brief music recital (on an original Steinway and huge organ). There is also a very interesting slide show of the original owner's early twentieth century photos. It makes for a very pleasant hour at the end of a day of hiking.

It had been over 20 years since we had visited the San Juan Islands and like in the past we decided to stay at Rosario Resort once again. It was our anniversary and we decided the long drive was worth it to get away. We were not disappointed. The rooms were okay (which we knew from years before) but the great service, food and setting more than make up for not having a fancy room. Will hopefully get to come back.

Rosario Resort has a name that is kind of misleading. The "resort" part I think means that the rooms are in buildings that are really spread out over a large property. You think it's going to be fancy, but it's not. Not terrible or anything, but not very fancy. More affordable than other locations, but the room we had was TINY. The view from our room made up for it for the most part. Our power went out 2 out of the 3 mornings we were there. Their circuitry can't handle hair dryers, apparently. They had really bad wi-fi; we gave up on it after the first night. No cell phone reception. By all means stay here, but don't expect a super fancy resort.

This has to be the best location and hotel on Orcas Island. There is a nice little beach which is easily accessible. There are three pools. There is a nice harbor side grill with amazing views of the water. In fact anywhere you are on the property there is a view of the water to enjoy. Although I was there to get away with my husband, it did not escape my attention that this is a family friendly place. There is a fire pit which is lit by the staff for enjoying a fire and roasting smores. There are tetherballs, hopscotches, and other outdoor games to enjoy. There are outdoor barbeques which are available for guest use. There is a laundry facility which is available. I went to the spa and had an amazing massage by a staff member who has been working there for 20 years. There is a daily organ/ piano show with a history of the mansion which is interesting to hear. The lounge offered a local artist playing the guitar on Saturday evening. The outside building of our hotel room looked a little dingy, so I was concerned. But once we entered the room I was happy. The room was very clean and we had a nice patio for enjoying a view of the water by ourselves. The price during the summer was very reasonable and I will return again.

Room Tip: Harborside was a good location.

This was a perfect place to stay. Very reasonable compared with other lodging and the views were superb. Eagle sightings daily. The hotel rooms are up high on a hill and the view of the puget sound is amazing. Ferries visible in the distance. Rosario Marina in the foreground. This hotel has been through many changes over the years and appears to have finally "made it" as it's a setting that is beautiful and the lodging seems to match. The Rosario Bar had good food too. We opted not to eat in the Dining Room and were glad we ate at the bar. Food more reasonable and very tasty. Lots of options: spa, fitness center, pools. We enjoyed hiking to Cascade Lake from Rosario. Easy trail to catch at the back of the property. Steep for the first five or so minutes but then easy. Around the lake is a must.

Room Tip: Ask for room with a view. Up on the hill.

We were recently married at Rosario Resort and Spa, and could not have picked a better venue. The views are stunning, the resort equipped with everything we could need for our guests - restaurants, pools, a gym, lounge, perfect location on Orcas island with many nearby activities, and a range of accommodations for every budget. But what really stood out to us was the service - from an impromptu visit on Easter Sunday to look at the venue, through over a year of planning, a week with our families at the resort, and the weekend with our loved ones, the kindness, generosity, flexibility, and attention to detail by this staff was exceptional. They were instrumental in creating the perfect atmosphere, keeping us all calm and collected, and helping to bring personalized touches to our guests' experience. We feel so lucky to have found this gem on Orcas, and will look forward to returning for years to come.

Room Tip: Every building has a different vibe and unique attributes - be sure to ask the staff for advice base...

I return every year for a week of peace. This island is truly amazing. The resort is one of the best places I have stayed. When you consider the staff, room, view, wildlife, peaceful little spots tucked away. There is one spot right across the oar king lot from harbor view that has a little waterfall and picnic table the perfect place for morning coffee. So many beautiful spots. The week I spend here gets me ready to face the upcoming year. If I only could take one vacation a year it would be this one. You will be doing yourself a huge favor by coming here. The whole island is perfect. But of your looking for exciting nightlife and never-ending excitement this is not the place. Ending note the island is primarily a state park.
