Whenever I called the resort, there was always someone nice that answered the phone, who was very helpful and courteous.

However, when we got to the resort, there was a very rude lady who assisted us and was very condescending to us and treated us like dirt.

On a nicer note, upon our leaving, the maintenance guy came around to drop off the cleaning supplies for the cleaning ladies. He greeted us "good morning" and asked how we enjoyed our stay and seemed very genuine.

Pro's
- Easy to get to from ferry
- Great view of the water, marina, harbor
- Beautiful area
- Continental breakfast was enough to start the day: hard boiled eggs, hot/cold cereal, cinnamon rolls, pastries, coffee, tea, juice, bagels
- layout of unit was awesome. Each room had it's own entrance to the unit and a deck.
- jacuzzi on deck

Con's
Unit:
- The interior carpet needs to be replaced. It's worn out and torn out in some sections.
- There was a hole in bathroom door from the inside - should be fixed
- the shower: the water, when turned on, defaults to hot water. This is a safety hazard! the standard is for it to default to cold. When I turned the shower on, I turned the handle all the way to the end, thinking it would turn hot. After waiting 5 minutes for the water to turn hot, it stayed freezing cold. then I realized, I had to turn back the knob to get warm water.
- Air conditioning did not work well
- jacuzzi looked murky
- no wi-fi, no mobile phone connection

Far from shops and restaurants in Eastsound

We have a 3 year old toddler and there wasn't really much for us to do here. Hubby mostly took her down to the beach or to the pool. (But it was too cold to go swimming). Other than that, there wasn't much that interested her.

A fun place to visit is Once in a Blue Moon Farm. They also sell delicious eggs!

We love Orcas Island. Because this area seems so remote (no wi-fi, no mobile phone service), we plan to stay in Eastsound. It's more central to food, shops, restaurants, activities to do.

Room Tip: Roon 124 had an awesome view of the fireworks for July 3rd celebration. It sits right over the water...

My husband, our 16month old and I stayed here for a night-- they had a heated pool, which was a bonus for our kiddo, a small sandy beach by the harbor (definitely not clean enough for swimming, but fun for our toddler to play in the sand).... our hotel room was perfectly fine-- I didn't go here expecting a 4 star stay, and I was pleasantly surprised. It felt clean and updated to me (and my husband considers me high maintenance-- ha). There were cute restaurants within a short driving distance (unlike beach haven resort which was a further drive from everything). Rated it as average but would have rated it good if there was that option. (Very good would be pushing it). The woman at the front desk was so friendly and helpful (unlike beach haven resort). And it's a short drive to the ferries.

Room Tip: I'd stay in one of the cabins, so you don't share a wall.

We stayed at this hotel for my birthday and got our coupon through Google deals. Our deal can be used anytime and for two nights. We got there on a Thursday night because they said that they were fully booked on that Saturday. Interestingly enough though, once we were there, we asked if we could extend our stay for another night (which means through Saturday night) and they said yes, we could, but we had to pay the full price for this extra day! So we were really surprised (and bummed) that they did not allow us to use our anytime coupon for a Friday to Saturday reservation. It is also possible that someone had cancelled their reservations so I am giving this place the benefit of the doubt because aside from the booking incident, our stay was great.

The best part of staying here:

1. The view was was amazing
2. The staff were very nice and welcoming
3. Free continental breakfast (e.g. boiled eggs, bagels, Starbucks coffee (drip), fruits, etc.)
4. Great cottage with hot tub, jetted bathtub, cable TV, mini fridge, fireplace, huge windows, spacious and clean bathroom
5. Walking distance to the Whale Watching Tour and the dock
6. Ample parking
7 .Swimming pool

The less desirable part:

1. The location is a little far from the shops, restaurants and other amenities. It was about 20 mins drive to get to their 'downtown' area.
2. No restaurant in the hotel
3. Phone reception was bad (by bad, I mean, NO reception)
4. No free Wi-Fi

The Resort at Deer Harbor is a secluded area in Deer Harbor. It sits on the hilltop and if you get a front room you are able to see the bay and beautiful sunsets while you sit in your hot tub on your deck. Can't ask for more. The bay is less than a 1000 yards away and if you want to kayak it is close by or go out whale watching. Great place to get away from the hustle and bustle.

Room Tip: Swimming pool available and great morning breakfasts for you to enjoy at the breakfast bar.

My husband and I loved everything about our stay at deer harbor resort. The staff was above and beyond friendly. They gave us so much good advice. The private cabin was awesome. We loved watching movies from our bed AND couch, as the flat screen rotates. Also, the room had a beautiful view of the harbor, private hot tub, and fireplace. It's a very quiet and peaceful location. Most of the restaurants and shopping are in Eastsound, which is about 10-15 minutes away, but we didn't mind the drive across this beautiful island. Great scenery! I would recommend exploring Moran state park and ocean kayaking. If you run out of things to do you can always walk on the ferry and travel to one of the other islands for free, but we found plenty to do on orcas during our two night stay.

we had bought a living social coupon and used it June 3, 2012 for our anniversary. we had never been to deer harbor, and we had a great time. The staff was very nice, and helped us in any way we needed. the breakfast was good, enough to get you going in the am. at times, it was a little crowded. My 2 complaints on this was 1) the website does not tell you enough, and there is a kitchen, but no stove!! they have a BBQ you can use, but how do you cook anything else? it forces you to go out which sometimes your not in the mood to do so. there are no utensils or plates in the room, you can get foil and paper plates from the front desk. unless your really good at BBQing everything, it makes it a little difficult. 2) the tv!! could not get it to work, they tried. and in this day and age, update to a flat screen, not some little tv in a big box. they tried. the hot tub on deck is nice, and the bed was huge. I agree, dont need a jetted tub if you have the hot tub. a shower would be just fine. I would go back again. but be prepared to drive a little to have meals. Westsound has a great cafe, otherwise you have to go to eastsound, and things are a little spendy.

As with many others, our stay originated with Living Social. We were late arriving due to ferry delays. We called ahead and the room info was taped to the office door. The keys were in the room..probably safe in this isolated local. The small harbor is quaint and quiet which means nothing to do except read and relax...both good and bad. The daily breakfast is delightful and the staff friendly. Housekeeping leaves a bit to be desired. The unit was a bit musty smelling upon arrival. We found a used bandaid stuck to the couch and a pair of ladies underwear in the bedroom.
There is only one average restaurant nearby and a handful fifteen minutes away in
East Sound via a scenic farmland backroad. We also had an interesting experience trying to pay the resort tax, as the clerk could not take cash, nor operate the credit card machine sitting on the desk, preferring to write down our credit card number for later use....hmmnnnn.
The island has great hiking and magnificent views, but we likely would stay in East Sound on a return trip.

Room Tip: Insist on one of the much newer deluxe cottages.
