“Pleasant Stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 4, 2013

Beautifully preserved older building kept very clean by the onsite owners. We spent 2 nights here leaving refreshed and pleased with the time we spent in the area. The only downside for us was the breakfast was a bit on the dull side, when traveling we like to eat something that we don't normally eat at home.

We stopped at the Weinhard on a long drive across Washington. Everything was perfect. The rooms are fitted out in non-frilly antiques supplemented by all the conveniences of a more modern era. Both the rooms and the lobby take you back 50 years due to their décor, but not their wear (there is none). The roof top terrace allowed star gazing as the Eastern Wa. air cooled down around the freshly cut wheat. This is more than a bed for the night and worth a detour for the stop. Nearby restaurants are some of the best in the state and more reasonably priced that Western Wa. The continental breakfast is perfect to get you on the road. They have some special occasions and not many rooms, so make reservations during which you can pick your room.

Joe, thanks for the review! We are thrilled that you found us and enjoyed your stay. Thanks for mentioning Dayton's great restaurants, too. We have always felt fortunate to have such fantastic gourmet options right here in our little corner of the state. Please come again, and bring your friends! Cheers, Shellie McLeod

While having a wedding out in Dayton we decided to have the family from California stay at the Weinhard, knowing it would give them an awesome stay. We gave them over 3 months notice on who we wanted to stay in each room(giving them our family members full names). Once they arrived we paid for highest priced room and some how it was left vacant. The staff would not work with us to get this fixed. Charged us for the room that was empty because they screwed up. So we paid for a room to be empty and then my family had to pay for another room. Not happy! I was very disappointed. Planning a wedding one would think there wouldn't be hotel drama but their was. The Dayton Best western is where we will have family stay for further events. Its not about the money it was about the service.

Dear Jessie,
I am so sorry that this misunderstanding put a damper on your wedding day. I know we have never met, as it was your mother who made the hotel arrangements with us, but I would like to explain to you what happened as I see it.
When your mom came in to tour the hotel in April, I walked through the hotel with her as she chose the rooms. She reserved all three rooms under her own name. At a later time, she called the hotel and gave the names of the guests for 2 of the rooms, which our receptionist wrote down on the reservation card. The 3rd room (which was the most expensive room) was left in your mother's name, and so we assumed it was for her. In the meantime, your aunt from California called and made her own reservation. Neither your aunt and uncle nor we knew that this room was to be assigned to them.

After no one came in to claim room 10 the first night, my husband called your mom to find out if someone would be using it on the second night. Through their conversation, the confusion was made clear and your mom said she understood that she would have to pay for the room. Gary assured her that we would do all we could to rent it out to someone else to prevent her from being charged. Unfortunately, we were unable to rent the room so your mom was charged for the no-show.
Your entire family has been a pleasure to work with. Your grandmother, aunts and uncles each expressed appreciation for the historic experience and all that we provided. Never did we feel that there were any hard feelings in this situation. I am extremely sorry to hear now that there were.
Most Sincerely, Shellie McLeod

My sister and I decided to spend a few days in Dayton instead of just a one day family visit to attend baby shower. We were sooo very glad we decided to enjoy the comfort and charm of this historic hotel.. Highly recommend all aspects of this hotel with the fine accommodations and helpful staff / owners. We both look forward to a return visit ...

Room Tip: Enjoyed the room on the second floor with the rooftop garden view.

We had traveled over 9,000 miles and this was our last stop on our way home. The Weinhard, in my wife's words, was saving the best for last. A beautifully restored hotel with a warm and welcoming staff. Great rooftop gardens, compfy bed and room, The location and value was excellent. Simply put, if you chose anywhere else in the area to stay your missing out.

We wanted an affordable place in the Walla Walla wine region to relax and be close to the wineries. Found The Weinhard on line after nothing in/around WallaWalla looked enticing. The history, reviews, and price of the Weinhard were quite agreeable. Once there we were only unhappy that we only had two days to stay. Unfamiliar with Dayton and the historic significance of the town everything was a surprise and delight. Weather was good restaurants were good and the hotel was a real gem of history and traditional elegance and style. The owners were great hosts and we're looking now for times and reasons to return.

Room Tip: Antique furniture and fine bedding and linens is great in all of the rooms. A great roof top deck fo...

Terry, I am so glad you searched the web and found us for your visit to the Walla Walla Valley! In my opinion, the half hour drive between Dayton and Walla Walla is a beautiful one and I am glad the distance did not deter you from discovering the lovely town of Dayton! Thank you for taking the time to review us on tripadvisor! We so appreciate you encouraging others to find us, too.
With sincere gratitude,

I've stayed here many times over the years and always try to include it whenever I'm in SE Washington. I'm a big fan of older, historic hotels and this one is a great example, as well as comfortable, the staff is great, and it's right in the center of Dayton (an easy walk to anywhere in town). Highly recommended.

Room Tip: Rooms on the upper hallway have easy access to the second-floor deck at the back of the hotel. A gr...
