The Spirit Ridge Inn is a unique experience. When we arrived, we were given the top floor of the building, known as the "Forest Turret Suite", which consisted of a huge "great room" with a separate bedroom and bath. Decor is best described as "New Age": various Native American artifacts (dreamcatchers, drums, etc.) are scattered about the great room. There is a huge fireplace surrounded by a large collection of books and CDs, as well as an impressive sound system. Music is definitely one of the themes in the room; a fully functional computerized player piano was a lot of fun. The most unusual feature of the room is the "turret", a private circular chamber placed up a short ladder. It has a low parabolic ceiling that does wonderful things with sound. When the windows that surround the turret are open, you can hear the forest sounds as if they are in the room with you. Basically, the acoustics are unreal--but in a good way. Playing a guitar in the room is a memorable experience; and it is perfect for meditation, if you are of a spiritual bent. The windows in the great room and turret look out into the forest; we saw deer wandering about.
On the first floor is the kitchen, which is in a sun room. Breakfast was simple; our hosts stocked the kitchen with coffee, tea, juice, cereals, and locally made bread. We served ourselves whenever we got up in the morning, and had a nice time chatting with the only other guest in the building at that time. We had full use of the kitchen if we wanted it. It might be a good idea to check with the management regarding breakfast as they were considering changing breakfast options at the time.
There was no TV in the room, but it is available in a common room on the first floor. Note that the inn is run in accordance with the local B&B standards, and as such linens are not changed everyday. A laundry is available; we did not use it at the time.
Spirit Ridge Inn is very green; solar panels provide power and the well water is delicious. Free wireless internet access is also provided.
Our host, Kurt, was very friendly and helpful, as well as a very good guitarist and conversationalist. He was always available if we needed something, but otherwise was nicely unobtrusive.
The room was very affordable--we had previously stayed at the Camano Island Inn, and this was a considerable savings in comparison.
If you like peace, quiet, and privacy, the Spirit Ridge is just what you need.
