After reading the reviews, our expectations were --to put our best spin on it-- low. However, we had a fabulous afternoon on the river with our guide, Joe. We were lucky to have warm weather, clear waters, beautiful views of the surrounding snow dotted rocky peaks from the river gorge and watched salmon swimming up river. We were the only two rafters so we were pleased that our trip was not cancelled. However, if you are considering taking a trip with Pacific NW Float Trips, there are some facts you should know before booking:
If you are expecting a highly organized, polished adventure, this may not be for you. But if you are seeking a great outdoors day with a skilled and knowledgeable guide, you might have a unique white-water Washington Cascades adventure. The company is owned and operated by a likeable, unique and colorful group of local characters. We were greeted at the gas station by Donovan (Donny) who exudes humor and warmth. Joe, who took us down the river, was affable, skilled, and extremely knowledgeable about the history, birds and fish of the area. Hats off to Joe for a great, informative, exciting afternoon! He skillfully guided us through class 2 and 3 rapids, and floated down serene areas of the river. You are going to get wet, the boat will dip and duck into the rapids, spilling 50-degree water over the bow and everyone in it, but if you want white-water without too much stress, this one might be for you.
Two small tips for Dave, the owner:
1) Forget the wine tasting as part of the adventure. It is not part of the rafting trip, but rather a self tour of local wineries. The winery that offers free tasting is not even open during the week. This is going to just make people upset (fine with us --Joe directed us to a local brew pub that was a lot more fun).
2) Clean the vans and the life jackets. First impressions count.
