“Barely adequate”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed August 26, 2013

The whole place had an element of dinginess. The bed pillows smelled like dirty hair. The chair and sofa were stained. The noise from the highway below was quite loud (but the room fan provided a sufficient, steady source of white noise.) Wifi is terrible. They offer basic cable with only main networks and telemarketing channels. No PBS or Law and Order. Breakfast was so unappetizing i skipped it after the first (of 4) days. Watery scrambled eggs. Poor water pressure in shower. Little counter space in bathroom area.

I recommend Fairfield or the Hilton by the Ferry dock.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 25, 2013

It was all rather average. At some points of my stay I thought, ok - 3.5 stars... sometimes, just 3-stars. At it's worst , maybe even 2.5 stars... read on.

The property itself is situated next to another apartment block that looks like it has seen better days and across from a 'memorial garden', in front of a highway. Looking a little worn in some places, some of the corridors seemed to go off to areas no longer open to guests (the pool?).

... it was a 5-10min drive to Dennys and other restaurants, as well as a 24hr supermarket... and across the street from the local 'memorial garden'. Nowhere near the water ... as some past reviews had given me the impression it was close to water.

It was a good base to explore Olympic national park though, being about 1.5-2hrs away.

The service on check-in was a little cool. Professional... not particularly welcoming..... mostly just functional. This was on the main lobby (4th floor) and the rest of the property has floors in a downhill fashion. We were given a room on the first floor... which is well, down 3 floors from the lobby area (on 4th floor) on the far end of the building.

It is only served by one lift lobby ... and it broke down twice in the 2 nights we were there and we had to climb flights up and down . Thankfully it was working when we checked out or hauling luggage would have been a problem.

Awkward passageways in places. Like from the lobby you can only get down a floor (or two?) .. .and have to walk to the other end of the corridor to find the other lift lobby. Or else walk to the end of the corridor on the lobby floor to find a lift down to the first floor.

if you are driving, the carpark gets crowded at night... and sometimes the residents from the apartment block next door just seem to be "hanging around". Also annoying that there were Mack trucks (?) which were like occupying 4 lots .

We also felt a bit uncomfortable being so far from the lobby area . Eerily, the lobby on the first floor was sometimes lighted by one lonesome lampstand with one barebulb!

By night, there were sometimes strange people hanging around this lift lobby... one of their other 'guests' (I assume it is a guest, frankly I couldn't tell if it was someone from the apartment block next door) stopped us and asked if we would like to buy 'canadian products'.

Our room itself was ok... a bit dark at times. The furnishing showed some age but was generally ok, as was the toilet. The balconies were bare concrete. Upkeep was generally ok though it seems they don't iron the sheets so everything was a bit crumpled.

By day... it was all good. The complimentary breakfast was actually very decent, and it was nice sitting around and having a bite before starting the day. While we were there, I noted that the US Navy puts up some of its staff there... so it can't be all bad, right?

In conclusion, I would say it was ok ... decent ... but not particularly enjoyable. Just a functional stay.

Room Tip: Try not to stay on the first floor... the rest of the building should be ok.
