“Great place to hike and/or bring your dog”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 3, 2013

Nice hiking trail around the lake (about 2.5 miles), not overly challenging. There are also off leash areas for your dog. If you have a water loving dog like a lab or a golden this is the place to go. There is a swimming area as well so the whole family can enjoy this park.

“Family Fun in the Summer”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 1, 2013

Lake Padden is a favorite for all Bellingham residents. There is a gorgeous 2.5 mile hike around the lake and the swimming is lots of fun. There are no motorized water vehicles allowed on the lake, so it is free of motor oil and noise! There are some picnic areas as well as bathrooms. Just make sure to rinse off/shower after swimming to avoid Duck Itch!

“Friendly park”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 31, 2013

Lake Padden Park has much to recommend it: a hiking path around the lake, short enough to do fairly easily, and extra branches for a bigger challenge; a swimming beach; picnic areas with covered pavilions for groups and grills to cook on; children's play ground; a dog leash-free area; quiet water sports (kayak, air mattress, no motors allowed); fishing in season. It is a community park for Bellingham, so quite a few activities take place here or start or stop here, including the New Year's Polar Bear swim and the summer Dog Days (a one-day event for dogs with booths selling dog-related items and a challenge course for dog gymnastics). It does lack parking on the very hot days of summer (relatively few) as the locals head for the swimming.

“Gem on a sunny day”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 30, 2013

A 2.6 mile path loops around the lake, passing a passel of recreation opportunities. If you park by the ball fields, you will see a large map of all the trails going up the ridge. Walking along the lake counterclockwise, pass the playground, picnic spots, canoe launch areas, swimming near the shower shelters, tennis courts, and some nice walking through stands of cedar and Douglas fir. The adjacent golf course is ranked one of the prettiest public links in the state.

“Get there early”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 29, 2013

I live close to the park, so I can easily walk or bike there. But if you want to be in the water on a hot summer day, make sure to get there early because the parking lot fills up quickly!
