How could we refuse this invitation, so, despite our wet jackets, walking sticks, and daypacks, we returned to the restaurant that had enticed us, but which looked too nice to be graced with our damp outdoor attire. How wrong we were! We were made to feel most welcome and have returned several times since, and been greeted with warmth and kindness as we stow our packs and sticks discretely underneath the table. But kind words alone do not make for a good restaurant; this place made my recent foray to New York very second class, and it is in the quiet West Coast backwater of Bellingham, looking west over Bellingham Bay. Quite simply, Giuseppe's does it right, from the warm welcome, the friendly staff, the efficient and respectful service, to, of course, the excellent menu featuring, but not restricted to, west coast seafood. Our mussels in tomato sauce were excellent, the cream asparagus soup delicious, the beet salad cunningly constructed of yellow and red beet layers was superb, the calamari delicious, especially when the extra chili peppers we requested were promptly provided. Even the coffee was just right. We will return, and not just when another wet walk drives us inside; next time with a significant other to enjoy a leisurely meal, the lovely view, and to sample the wine list and dessert.
