We had several rooms reserved for our wedding party. Everyone was very pleased with the accommodations. We stayed in the apartment for 9 days. We had some people arriving and departing on the shuttle to/from Seattle. We could watch from the apt. It was a large suite, with a full kitchen. Since it was a meeting place several times for up to 10 people, it worked out well.

Our party also had the large suite with with two queens (big enough for the bride and 4 bridesmaids) and the large suite with one king. They were very nice rooms with a decent pull-out couch. Our other guests had regular rooms. These rooms were nice but seemed very small because there is a lot of big furniture in each room. It's hard to put a small pack-n-play playpen in one of these rooms. We requested rooms away from the highway and the request was honored.

The staff was really great. We had to pass messages to our guests and the front desk was very helpful. The staff is really pleasant.

The breakfast is a good choice of food. There are waffles, bagels, rolls, donuts, scones, toast, fruit cocktail, yogurt with grape nuts, boiled eggs, cereal , milk, juice, tea, and coffee.

We had people from the area dropping off guests. They commented on how nice the rooms were. They had never been impressed with the outside of the building but would recommend the Val-u Inn to others after seeing the inside. We would definately stay here again.

For my stay, I was promised a pickup from the train station whereas all they did when I phoned was send a taxi cab and I paid for it myself. Then it was another quite expensive taxi cab ride to the ferry terminal when I left. Should have tried for somewhere closer, although I think the options were limited. The district close to the train/ferry terminal is called Fairhaven (I think) if that helps anyone else, that's what you want, not Bellingham, if you're embarking. Back to the Val-U Inn, the room was well-equipped and comfortable except for stifling heat, even worse in the corridors, I nearly expired. This was in June and the weather outside was quite mild. Other than that everything was fine. I found shops, restaurant and bank very handy to the motel, luckily as I had no transport and little time.

Location is easy to find, right off the freeway. The room was clean and the breakfast was good as well, (I like making my own waffles). The pastries were amazingly fresh but lack of milk and cereal was kinda a let down.

The hallways are not temperature controlled and were muggy, even at night and morning, (room was okay once the AC was turned on).

Best highlight, 3-ring notebook with pages of local activities, (I'm easy). It had a great list, next best thing after knowing a local.

I tried using the Valu Inn web site, never received a confirmation. Two weeks before trip I sent an email to motel. No response. Week before trip I called the motel and was able to get the last room available. The hotel is OK, appearance is a little run down. Room was fine, clean, with a microwave and frig. However, be very careful when you make a reservation. the rooms on one side directly face I 5, and I do mean directly, just the other side of the parking lot. My second floor room was on same level as freeway. Needless to say, traffic noise was loud enough to drown out tv. Front desk said they couldn't move me. So I made do by running the ac unit at full blast all night, which at least masked the car noises (except for truck air brakes). If you can't stand that solution, insist on a room on the side away from the freeway. I would not stay there again unless I was guaranteed that.
