“Relaxation at the marina”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 13, 2011

We stayed at the Hotel Bellwether, my wife and I, for four nights starting April 27, 2011 and then traveled on to Friday Harbor on San Juan Island for three nights. We had a king waterfront room, second floor. The room was large, comfortable, excellent view on the balcony of the marina, the bay and a park on the other side of the marina, and a nice fireplace. Absolutely no complaints about the room, everything worked as it should, bed and furniture all clean and comfortable and the room in general was clean and well kept. There was secure, underground parking which was extremely convenient.

There was an excellent restaurant just next door, Anthony's Hearthfire Grill, and we had dinner there twice. Both food and service left nothing to complain about. There is a paved walking/bicycle path that goes around the marina to Zuanich Park across from the hotel. The park is active on evenings and weekends with families, walkers, joggers and kite flyers as well as people with their dogs, something we loved to see as we miss our Border Collies when we are traveling without them.

In the hotel was a small, cozy bar/lounge with fireplace and an excellent view. There was also a restaurant and we had breakfast there once, had a dinner of several appetizers in the bar once. The food was very good with only one flaw. The breakfast omelet I had was very tasty and well prepared but the hash browns were a bit cold in the center. It really wasn't enough to complain about at the time and we're early risers so were seated just as the restaurant opened.

The only downside to the location is that you travel through a typical waterfront business district to get to the hotel and downtown Bellingham is a about a five minute drive or a good long walk. The village of Fairhaven is about a fifteen minute drive.

The staff were pleasant and helpful, no complaints here at all. All in all Hotel Bellwether was a really pleasant, relaxing stay. We will definitely return as we love the Pacific Northwest, so different from Florida.

If it were possible I think a 4.5 of 5 rating would be more accurate.

Room Tip: Just get a second or third floor waterfront room with a balcony that meets your needs. The view is w...

Its been almost 2 months since our stay and the only think that really sticks out in my memory is that you could hear the trains and that the other hotel was the one that people said it was really noisey and hard to sleep. The whistle woke us up throughout the night so I cant imagine how bad it must have been at the other hotel.

Yes, it was a cute place, but it just wasnt as nice as we had hoped. The fact that it is older is fine, but it seemed outdated and a bit dingy.

I guess the best way to put it is that :it was ok.".
Would we stay there again?- Since the options are limited and cant imagine staying at the other "nice" hotel where the noise is even worse, I guess so.

The lighthouse suite at the Bellwether is one of our top favorites. Bellingham, Washington is already the most idyllic harbor town in the Pacific Northwest. The Bellwether takes full advantage of that quaintness by locating out at the tip of a projection of land between marinas brimming with sailboats, fishing trawlers and private motor-yachts.

Located at the point of the property, at the entrance of the marina, is the three-story lighthouse suite. It is capped by an all glass cupola that looks just like the top part of a lighthouse. The cozy, 360 degree vista view from the inside sitting area is completed by an outdoor walk-around. The harbor activity includes large ships, the frequent excursions by smaller boaters and the ever-present sea-birds that make this perch a satisfying experience throughout the day. The sunsets don't get any better.

The twenty-five foot diameter octagon gets very cozy as you descend. The middle floor is an inviting master bedroom with a king bed, down comforters and a large fireplace that makes you want to sleep in till as late as possible. Even this floor has a harbor facing deck to pull you into the full experience. The layout in this unusual space is clever to also accommodate staircases and bathrooms. The closets get a little pinched, but the rest is too overwhelming to care.

The bottom floor's living room, kitchenette, guest bath and large outside deck are perfect to entertain several friends who are always reluctant to leave.

We have stayed in this suite many times. Bellingham holds a warm place in our hearts, but the lighthouse suite makes us always comment to each other, "We love this place".

Large room with a beautiful view of the bay, a gas fireplace, jetted soaker tub, and the most comfortable bed/bedding I've experienced on the road in a while. Breakfast not included, but the secure, underground parking is free. We usually stay in Fairhaven, but it was nice to explore downtown Bellingham this time. Although the train track are close by, we didn't hear any trains.

Beautiful room, comfy bed, fireplace, deep bathtub. A view I could live with for the rest of my life, herons, bald eagles, and south bound canadian geese. Wonderful helpful staff, underground parking. Can't wait to walk the harbor trail in the morning. Excited to be staying for a few days so much to explore in the area.

Room Tip: West side, overlooks the harbor, sunset views.

Stayed at Hotel Bellwether for a business meeting. Rooms are very nice and comfortable. The view on the water side of the hotel is gorgeous. There are several restaurants within walking distance of the hotel. The breakfast in the hotel is great, they have a wonderful selection. If it is not raining it is a beautiful setting for a very nice northwest sunset.

Friends recommended this hotel and they were right. It is the best Bellingham has to offer. Close to other restaurants. They have a friendly, comfortable bar and outside seating as well. The room was large and had all ammenities you could want. The service was great and the people at the front desk were friendly and helpful. There was great underground parking so the car was safe and there was great lighting there. No negatives on this one.
