My wife and I were heading home after attending the Chuckanut Writers Conference and were looking for a breakfast spot. Magdalena's Creperie had just opened on the sleepy Sunday morning. We were welcomed by Greg, the husband, of Magdalena, the chief chef and owner. We had a wonderful talk while we waited for the Creperie to fully open.
The ambiance is very European and warm as Magdalena is originally from Poland but has been trained as a chef in France. The food photos on the wall were taken by her. I loved the detail on the small tables and the unique pillows. And, enjoyed sharing background stories with Greg. It was quite a romance between them. Then the food came.
Very fresh! We were treated to a wonderful crepe. Catalina had the smoke salmon and I the ham. Ingredients included capers, spinach, tomato, olives. The crepe was light and thin alternative to a pancake and held up well as a envelope for the meal which was perfect. We also sampled Magdalena's sorrel soup with linguisa. Try this for lunch!
Catalina has previously owned a successful restaurant in Seattle and is a cook in her own right. She and Magdalena spent time sharing thoughts on recipes. Magdalena's turned out to be a very charming, personal and memorable experience which is what we look for as we travel. We will surely return!
