On the bright side, the location of the Bellingham Days Inn leaves little to be desired. It was easily within driving distance of the local WWU bar scene, which was quite convenient after throwing down a few and then getting behind the wheel. But I’m not here to talk about the bright side of this Days Inn. I’m here to talk about the dark side.
We arrived at the hotel at around 2:30 AM and were met by a jovial man at the front desk. After getting our keys and heading to our room, I glanced at the bed…and recoiled in horror. There were three pillows.
Now…I’m a man that craves – hell, I practically require – two pillows while sleeping. I need one under my head and one comfortably under my arm, essentially acting as a body pillow. Unless I’m in some sort of blacked-out drunken state or exhausted to the point of collapse, I am not going to sleep comfortably without my two pillows. For some reason, the Bellingham Days Inn decided to force me into a situation in which I was either a) deprived of my second pillow, or b) forcing my lady friend to sleep without her own second pillow. Being the gentle soul that she is, my companion suggested that we share the second pillow, and I agreed that this seemed to be the best solution available to us.
So what happened? Yeah, we shared the pillow. But apparently I had erred in not exerting my dominant male traits and commandeering the second pillow for my own, personal use. My lady friend decided – subconsciously or otherwise…I can’t be sure – to take my generosity for granted and hog the covers all night. Not wanting to wake her, I spent all night shivering in the subzero temperatures of a western Washington winter and the cover-less, pillow-deprived conditions of a barren hotel room.
I simply can’t recommend staying at the Bellingham Days Inn…at least until they place four pillows on each bed.
Oh…and the pipes were so loud in the morning that someone taking a shower halfway down the hallway managed to wake us up.
