“The best part of this place is the irony of it all.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 31, 2014

Stonewall Jackson, brilliant Civil war general, captivating figure from the civil war and has Mary Tyler Moore as a descendant! This place was terrific! The docent working the day I visited was funny, informative and I believe he was old enough to have seen battle with the Army of Northern Virginia! LOL. The building is as it was in 1862. The displays were great and the overall feel of this place took me back.
The irony is just down the street and a few blocks over stands General Phillip Sheridan's headquarters which now is a GIFTSHOP with only a small plaque explaining what this place was to everyone then and now. Being southern has it's advantages.

“Interesting”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 23, 2014

Lots of history. Good stories. Amazed to find out that the house belonged to Mary Tyler Moores grandfather and she helped to restore it.

“BEST Tour in Town!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 20, 2014

My dad was a Civil War Re-enactor, so we really wanted to go see this house museum with him while he was up from TN. It was the coolest, most enjoyable, best tour we went on that day! Our guide was very knowledgeable, funny, and kind; the home is extremely well-preserved; and many of the pieces are either original or very well-researched replicas. Well worth the couple of block's walk from the main drag, so make sure you don't miss it!

“Brilliant for lovers of history, many original objects”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 10, 2014 via mobile

Greeted in period costume, groups of 5 shown around by ver enthusiastic and knowledge staff. Stonewall was only here for a few months, but the have collected a good array of picures, flags, paintings and other memorabilia, so each of about 8 rooms has a story to tell; amazining that this town had changed hands 70 times. Small gift shop worth visiting. Great way to spend an hour or so, $10 per adult tour and entry fee.

“Good Informative House Tour”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 8, 2014

A lovely house, easy to find with roadside parking.
Greeted at the door by a period dressed lady who shared the tours with another man giving a good tour of many rooms and relating much information about the house, it's occupants and history.
