One should be able to get a feel for Thomas Jackson during the Civil War...a good number of his personal items from his life at that time are on display. The building/headquarters is beautifully, painstakingly preserved...one can almost imagine his tall frame lumbering into the room...
The lady who did the tour of the headquarters was very informative and helpful. Most of the items held there are originals and are kept in good condition.
This is a little difficult to find, but its worth the difficulty, Its a beautiful little house but has a bit of a sad story. The lady who gave us the tour was very well informed and delivered an excellent talk which was very educational.
The ladies that did tour of house did a great job learned a lot after her story.All the furnishings in the home is in such good shape a lot of rooms all complete with a story to tell.
We had a personalized tour with a wonderful young man (sorry forgot his name). We enjoy visiting old homes expecially those furnished with period furniture or the families actual furnishings. Tour took about 45 minutes; guide was not in hurry and very willing to answer any questions and allow time for us to browse and look things over. Small gift shop, parking is on the street (may not have public restroom as I didn't see any sign for one). Stairs and two floors of house to cover so not accessible to anyone using a wheelchair. House is one of three locations we visited using the $10 museum tour block ticket we purchased from Winchester-Frederick County Historical Society. Otherwise, I think the admission just for this house is $5 for an adult. The house is just down the street from Washington's Winchester Office.
