“Best service I have experienced.”

I travel a lot for my job and have stayed in my fair share of hotels. I have never experienced the level of excellence that I have witnessed here from Debbie and Heather. They went out of their way entirely to ensure I had every thing I needed for my trip, all together. All summed up, I have never felt more welcome.

“Excellent overnight at HI Winchester VA”

Stayed here one night on a business trip to the area. Location is easily accessed from I-81 and is a short drive to Old Town and very close to the Apple Blossom Mall. Check-in was efficient and since I signed up for the Priority Club I received a bag with a bottle of water and a locally grown apple upon check-in, which I thought was a thoughtful touch (Priority Club also offered a 15% discount in hotel restaurant). Lobby offered a coffee station and a nice alternative, apple cider and the lobby also offered a seating area near a fireplace. Common areas seemed very well maintained. King room on fifth floor (532) on road side of hotel was spacious, clean, and comfortable. Wireless internet worked well and flat-screen TV offered a good assortment of channels. Bed was especially comfortable, with an assortment of soft and firm pillows. Being on the road side of the hotel, some traffic sounds were heard (mostly from larger trucks) but few sounds from hallway or neighboring rooms. All staff encountered were friendly and helpful. Food from on-site restaurant was average but a nice option after traveling and not wanting to venture out again. Great state government rate. Would stay here again if in the area.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the back side of the hotel to help minimize road noise.

“Clean, comfortable, modern and well equipped!”

Also: Excellent location and great value; quiet, professional, spacious, and efficient!

We selected this hotel because of the great reviews and its location - convenient to Shenandoah and Harpers Ferry National Parks - it truly is a "gateway"! Sadly, we were unable to visit Harpers Ferry due to Mother Nature's Halloween trick "Snowtober". Therefore, we spent an entire day in our hotel room but we were very comfortable and had all that we needed - refrigerator, microwave and coffee maker; comfortable bed/chair and heating; nice flat screen TV; large desk and Wi-Fi; great view of the snowfall (and our car) out the window!

Housekeeping service was attentive but unobtrusive. Great location close to restaurants and shopping. The only difficulty we experienced was somewhat low water pressure in the (very large!!) shower but it was a minor problem (perhaps because we were on the 5th floor?)

We have already recommended this hotel to others and will definitely return if in the area again!

Room Tip: We asked for high floor, away from the elevator and it was very quiet.

“Super clean, new feeling, outstanding value”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 29, 2011

Stayed Oct 21-23 with my wife, on way to Skyline Dr. and Luray. Researched all area hotels, this one was consistently highly rated. It lived up to its high rating. Would bring my wife here again. This is a great value hotel. By that I mean not a lot of 5 star frills (don't expect live music in lounge, luxurious towels, monogrammed luxurious robes, expensive lotions, or a bathtub--stand up shower only). But, don't confuse it with cheap, flea-bag places. It's not. Thought it was better than lower-rated, in town hotels in Winchester proper or Front Royal.

Do expect very new feeling, modern hotel (although cookie cutter styling) that's absolutely clean, excellent maid service, basic, but spotless rooms with small refrig, microwave, coffeemaker, soft but comfortable bed, bright safe parking right down and outside your window so you can see your car, nothing around area to attract derelicts to parking lot, convenient, off-highway location, IHOP for breakfast two minutes away (hotel restaurant breakfast not included), easy check in and typical, expedited check out (invoice left under door just leave your key in room), free coffee bar in lobby. Pretty quiet outside room, only heard a few people briefly walk by. They apparently separated us from folks there for a wedding. Smart move--never heard it. I got government rate (state employee) so hotel was super cheap.

I liked how General Mgr. responded on Tripadvisor to most of the reviews, good or bad--shows attention to detail and personal involvement, which was reflected in overall way hotel presented itself. Good job!

Now, if I was forced to find fault, the cons, and these are really minor: No bathtub, but at less than 80 bucks a night, I'll stand, and the shower was huge and, of course, spotless, with hot water strong and plentiful. Relatively loud heating unit (this thing could heat a factory if you cranked up the temperature on the remote, digital wall control), even on low, the fan sounded pretty strong. Not broken sounding, just strong. This was not too terrible though and we slept fine.

Staff: young woman at check-in was pleasant enough and efficient. Met maintenance man in elevator and chit-chatted. Pleasant guy, seemed genuinely happy, Talked to him about Skyline Dr. and he told us of his awesome view from the roof. Only minor complaint is that the rest of the lobby staff barely looked up and didn't give any greetings, even though they're located directly in from the door, when we went in and out (and anyone else entering or leaving). A little "good morning" greeting, or "have a nice day" is expected, especially when you pretty much walk right by them--especially in Virginia. Without it, it makes staff seem standoff-ish.

Again, if that was all that was wrong with this hotel--book it! You will be glad you did.
