“Quaint B&B”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 20, 2014

The rooms were richly decorated with a very comfortable bed. We enjoyed the dinner at the restaurant. The crabcakes were very tasty and the wine was very good. Breakfast was also very good, the quiche was great. Would definitely eat there again. Great for a special get away.

Room Tip: Stay in the Lombardi room. Would consider staying again in Fall or Winter and using the fireplace

First of all, in response to Mark S's review, I do not work for Wedmore Place. I never even heard about it until a couple of months ago. I do not believe that the dozens of positive comments my husband and I read in the journals left in the rooms for travelers to write their thoughts were all written by Wedmore employees, either.

If what you're looking for is a streamlined, modern hotel with all the modern bells and whistles, this is not the place for you. If you want to be right in the center of everything, you might want to consider a hotel or motel in town.

This place is a quiet retreat; somewhere to get away from the craziness of the world. It is located on a 300-acre plot of land, with vineyards on 100 acres of the property. This might be one reason why the Internet and cell phone reception is not the same as what you might find in a busier area. For the most part, we found the WiFi and cell phone reception adequate.

We can only write about our room (27), since admittedly, we haven't stayed in every room at Wedmore (though the thought sounds appealing ... we would enjoy personally seeing each one. The ones we managed to see were all very attractive.). Our room smelled perfectly fine, and was well-appointed. We had a room near the wooded area, and enjoyed sitting at our desk and glancing outside as we checked our e-mails. We found the bed comfortable. Do be aware, however, that the mattresses are on the soft side, so if you need a firm mattress, you may need to bring some sort of topper with you.

We did not find the floors especially noisy, nor the walls especially thin. Once in a while, we'd hear a creak or a voice, but nothing annoying. As someone wrote in another review, most of the guests seemed to be aware that this is more of an Inn/B&B atmosphere, and behaved accordingly.

The staff was extremely cordial to us, even though we left several toiletries home and had to keep getting them from the front desk, and even though we peppered the staff with questions. The winery tour guide was pleasant and knowledgeable, and the restaurant staff was professional.

We found both breakfast and dinner delicious. We were not rushed through the meals, which we appreciated greatly. I guess we are not gourmets ... we had no problem at all with the quiche for breakfast! While we could have eaten the tasty breakfast provided every day for several days, Wedmore might want to consider adding another hot dish to the menu in the future, just to provide a bit more variety. We would not deduct anything from our review for that, however. Cereal, croissants, fruit and yogurt are also provided daily.

Our only regret staying here is that we couldn't stay another day. We hope to return again as soon as we can get away.

This place advertises itself as very French and I would not disagree - with all the positives and negatives that implies. The rooms are a bit different with lots of character but not exactly comfortable and when I sat down to write a postcard at the desk the chair leg fell off (and I am not large or heavy). We have stayed in a number of French chateaux which are just like this - you accept the decor for the restaurant and that goes for this place too. There are no refrigerators in the rooms nor safes which is a bit of a nuisance for overseas visitors who want to leave passports etc in their rooms. The swimming pool needs a bit of urgent maintenance - there are quite a few broken tiles around the sides which could cut bare feet. The staff on reception were OK but could have made a little more effort to be welcoming. The breakfast was good - but who has quiche for breakfast? It's over-priced for what you get.

Many of our carefully selected pieces are antiques and wear is expected. The impossibility of satisfying all culinary tastes, is always predominate in our minds and while we strive to enhance the guests experience, we do encourage special requests or needs to be addressed during the booking process so that we may better accommodate our guests. Certain extras for our unique rooms and suites can also be requested during the booking stage or 24 hours prior to check-in where our staff will gladly assist where possible.

We stayed 4th of July weekend and were not happy. The rooms smell like mold, out dated, not many channels for cable (only have 10! ) the pool is small the walls are paper thin (had to be moved from our room into another due to an infant crying above our room; seemed like he was in our room!! ) Overall save yourself some money get a motel 6 it will be the same as this place !! else The breakfast was worse then holiday inn ~!! I think the reviews written on this site are by their employees !

As always we appreciate the time this guest took to leave a review. We take pride in the experience that we provide to guests, but recognize that we are not for everyone. If hundreds of television channels and multiple pools are a priority over fine dining, wine tasting, unique antique appointments in each room, and casual luxury, we may simply not be the best fit.

For the price, you really get a lot: charm, large rooms, winery tour, continental breakfast on a 100 acre estate. The beds were comfortable and decor was very european - which was the family's intent. Yes, it is noisy with the hard wood floors and design, but all the guests are aware of this and try to be considerate. It isn't much noisier than a B&B. The breakfast was super tasty. I did think the bathrooms were small with odd layout, yet you also had both a bathtub and separate shower.

The rooms are beautiful and so comfy! I love the creaking of the wood floors, as it brought back memories of my grandparents home on the farm. She could always tell when we got out of bed when we should have been in it. The breakfast was so amazing, it was hard to push the plate away. The staff was very courteous and helpful. Don't forget to take the winery tour next door. The best wine tour I have been on and our guide was terrific. A nice restful getaway out of the city and worth every penny and more.

Room Tip: I stayed in the Normandy room, but they all look beautiful. It overlooked the pool.

This was a return visit to Wedmore Place. Unfortunately, only for one night.
The grounds are magnificent...vineyards everywhere you look. Our room was large and cozy with a fireplace and a beautiful view of the grounds. Service was excellent.
Only downside was boisterous guests returning late, slamming doors, and being inordinately loud.
