Every moment at the Wedmore Place was perfect. The rooms are very nice, each one being different. We were delighted with every aspect. The restaurant is first class, we had dinner there both nights, after the first evening we thought it would be foolish to go anywhere else. Breakfast in the morning was delicious, especially the croisants which are flown in from Paris frozen and then baked in their kitchen. I thought I was in Europe again. If you are planning a trip to this wonderful area of the country stay here, you will not find anywhere nicer or more reasonably priced for what they offer. It is convenient to Williamsburg and the staff at the reception desk are more than helpful giving written directions to anywhere you wish to go. If you are wanting a peaceful romantic few days together this is the place to be.

I had heard so many good things about this place, but when we checked in I started seeing things go slightly downhill. The desk clerk was very friendly and attentive, so no problem there. When we got to our room, it smelled heavily of wood burning fireplace. This smell just sort of hangs on you, and if anyone has allergies, this may be a problem (plus when you get home all of your luggage, clothes, etc. smell like that.) Then we noticed strands of hair on our bed. My husband didn't want me "making trouble" so he just plucked them off and washed his hands. This bothered me everytime I slept at night, though. Plus, the bed is VERY soft and we kind of rolled toward the middle all night. Then, we tried to get a fire in our room one night (since it already smelled like it) and they said they couldn't because it wasn't working right. The room itself was nicely furnished and clean (other than the hair) and the people were very friendly. You also must try the restaurant-it is the BEST! I just wish a few things had been different......

Let me begin with my 1st call to the Wedmore to make the reservation... Christine was fantastic!!! She was very helpful and took care of all my needs. She arranged a beautiful Superior room that suited us wonderfully, also recommended a "Romance Package" that was wonderful! The restaurant in the Wedmore, Cafe Provencal, was PHENOMENAL! The Filet dinner I had melted in my mouth, as did the lamb did in my dinner partners! Carroll checked on us continually making sure everything was fine, the ENTIRE staff was outstanding, every server took care of our needs and made sure everything was to our satisfaction. The surroundings of the estate were beautiful to walk through and the winery was one of the best experiences we've encountered in our travels. We are already planning another get away to the Wedmore in December if there is availability...Once again, we will truly go back to the Wedmore and experience the pleasure again, and hopefully it will be cold enough to enjoy the fireplace in the room with a good bottle of wine!!!

Mid-way through my wife's and my 2 night/3 day stay, we found ourselves on the elevator with a distinguished looking older gentleman. He began chatting with us and it turned out he was the owner of both Wedmore and the adjoining vineyard. This brief, pleasant exchange was representative of the quality, individualized attention guests can expect while staying here.

And stay we did... from dinner in the restaurant, Cafe Provencal, to lunch at Gabriel Archer Tavern and a reserve wine tour of the vineyard, we left very few stones un-turned; here are some highlights:

As mentioned, the service was top-notch. For example, take something that went wrong... When we showed up, they didn't have our "welcome" bottle of champagne chilled (we were there with the Romance package). After apologizing, they suggested and ultimately had it ready in our rooms the next day after our couple's massage. This was even better, and there's a lot you can learn about a place when they are recovering from an omission.

Beyond this anecdote and the great service, the boutique's decor is welcoming. The library is especially pleasant and adjoining pool area is nice too. Both were perfect places to relax with a glass o' wine or tea/coffee.

As referenced in the title, everything was so perfect that we never ended up leaving the grounds, despite our best intentions to see Richmond. This was due in part to some un-seasonable rain (we visited in August), but mostly because the stay turned out to be the perfect detox to the crazy-busy lifestyle we both grind out in DC.
