Mid-way through my wife's and my 2 night/3 day stay, we found ourselves on the elevator with a distinguished looking older gentleman. He began chatting with us and it turned out he was the owner of both Wedmore and the adjoining vineyard. This brief, pleasant exchange was representative of the quality, individualized attention guests can expect while staying here.
And stay we did... from dinner in the restaurant, Cafe Provencal, to lunch at Gabriel Archer Tavern and a reserve wine tour of the vineyard, we left very few stones un-turned; here are some highlights:
As mentioned, the service was top-notch. For example, take something that went wrong... When we showed up, they didn't have our "welcome" bottle of champagne chilled (we were there with the Romance package). After apologizing, they suggested and ultimately had it ready in our rooms the next day after our couple's massage. This was even better, and there's a lot you can learn about a place when they are recovering from an omission.
Beyond this anecdote and the great service, the boutique's decor is welcoming. The library is especially pleasant and adjoining pool area is nice too. Both were perfect places to relax with a glass o' wine or tea/coffee.
As referenced in the title, everything was so perfect that we never ended up leaving the grounds, despite our best intentions to see Richmond. This was due in part to some un-seasonable rain (we visited in August), but mostly because the stay turned out to be the perfect detox to the crazy-busy lifestyle we both grind out in DC.
