“Pleasant Stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 5, 2013

The Holiday Inn staff were friendly and welcoming even with our late arrival. The hotel public spaces were clean and modern. My family (wife and two teenagers) stayed in a two bedroom suite. The room was comfortable and clean. The queen beds had good mattresses and pillows. The room was easy to keep dark for sleeping even though it had an east facing window. The bathroom was a good size for this level of hotel and the towels were plush. Some of the furnishings were a little beat up but not badly and could have just happened the day before we arrived. The only truly negative thing is that the in room coffee was awful but they have free coffee in the lobby that is good.

I chose this hotel for my family's first trip to Williamsburg based on the great reviews on TripAdvisor. It's true, the service was great, and it was very clean. We just found the room a little cramped, even though it was a suite. With children, a spacious hotel room is a big plus, and here the bedroom (two beds) was tight. The decor is also a bit cold, and shower pressure (on the fourth floor at least) was low. But the service is warm and attentive, housekeeping is very good, and the hotel is convenient to restaurants and attractions.

Room Tip: We were on the fourth floor and all was quiet. Low shower pressure though.

We travel a lot throughout the U.S. and typically always stay at Holiday Inn Hotels. This hotel was by far the best we have stayed in. We stayed in a suite that was super clean with excellent beds. The restaurant in the hotel did an outstanding job when it comes to breakfast. The Chef even came out and made sure our breakfast was of the highest standards. The facility was just top notch across the board. The key to this hotel is that you never felt like you were in a hotel.......you felt comfortable like you would in your on home. The staff was outstanding (especially management) in satisfying all of our special needs and the location was excellent. If you want a fun and relaxing place to stay in Williamsburg.....this is the place.

Room Tip: The third floor is the floor to stay in.

Well, this time we stayed for 2 nights (weekend). We booked a suite. (2 queens and a sitting room combo), using our AAA discount. We were on the 2nd floor. What a nightmare. There was a huge family reunion going on...children running up and down the halls at 1:30am, doors opening and slamming shut, people laughing and calling to each other in the hallway. We had to call the front desk several times to ask that someone be sent up. Finally, around 2pm, things settled down. The next night, same thing happened, but at least things quieted down around midnight. Breakfast in the hotel was lackluster. The grapefruit juice machine was broken with no sign on it (it was spewing out water). The waiter had a major attitude. The buffet was standard, but the freshly-made omelet for my husband was very greasy. The kids had soggy pancakes and I had a greasy waffle. The restaurant manager came over to see how our breakfast was, and we told him everything that had happened over the course of our stay. He was very apologetic, and did the best he could. We were comped our first night stay because of all the noise, etc., and our breakfast was comped as well. We realize that noise is out of control, because, of course, it is up to the guest to think of others, but other factors were involved in our decision not to return to this hotel. The refrigerator wasn't working properly, and until we called down twice, someone finally came up (the 1st person told my husband that it needed time to cool down, just like the a/c). Turns out, the switch on the back was turned off. The free wifi was cancelled 24 hours into our stay, and we had to argue to get it back. The hallways are always very muggy and humid (we realize this is a green hotel, but really - get the air moving), and it takes forever for the rooms to cool down to a comfortable sleeping level. Every time we call down for help or towels, etc (because we always needed an extra washcloth; they only provided 3 washcloths, but 4 towels). We never did get the extra washcloth despite at least 2 notes to housekeeping and a front desk call. So, that's it for us. Time to find a different hotel. Thanks to Max and Jan for doing what they could to help us. Not your fault we are not returning to your hotel.

Room Tip: Avoid the 2nd floor at all costs...the bulk of large parties are put here!

Dear NJLovesVA,

Thank you for sharing your comments on Tripadvisor.com. Your feedback helps our team to continuously improve our operations and service. I am sorry that we did not meet your expectations regarding the listed obstacles in your review. I apologize and that is not acceptable that your family had to experience them. I will certainly address all concerns with our department leaders. I can confidently say that our juice machine has been fixed and we took all of your comments about the lack of follow up for extra towels and temperatures of our hallways into consideration. We have made necessary adjustments in hopes of continuously improving our guest experience. Feel free to contact me if you would like to address any further concerns. I apologize again and can't thank you enough for your business.

Regards,

This hotel was fine. Pros were good location and super friendly staff. Average room, beds were ok. We chose it based on reviews and because there aren't many full service hotels in the area. The price of $159 a night was too high for the quality. While the hotel was fine, it is typical of what you get in the $105-$110 range.

Dear EssHHI,

Thank you for your review. I am happy that you had a positive experience with our staff and your overall experience. I am sorry that seemingly our price range did not line up to value. It would help us greatly if we could get into the specifics of the areas that value could be improved. Would you please contact me at your soonest convenience? Your feedback is greatly appreciated!

This is one of your better choices if you are looking for a clean, comfortable room in Williamsburg. Price is higher than average for the area, but you get what you pay for. Great location, clean, comfortable beds, our suite was quite large, and the staff is very good at providing customers with the best service. Breakfast is not free, and is a bit overpriced, we ate breakfast elsewhere. They have an problem with bees in the parking lot, so be aware of that if you have an allergy to bee stings. Would definitely stay again without hesitation.

I have not stayed in a holiday inn since I was a young girl with my parents. I must admit I was a bit skeptical. But from the moment we arrived my fears were put to rest. All the staff was very accommodating from the front desk to the wait staff and chef in the dining room and also the housekeeping staff. The rooms were very comfortable and most importantly they were clean. We were a party of 7 and had 3 rooms. I love that kids under 12 eat free. The breakfast buffet has a wide variety and made to order eggs and waffles. Everyone in our group was satisfied. I want to give a special thanks to Jeffrey, I believe he is a manager, he was very helpful right from the start and recommended restaurants each night. In particular, he sent us to Second St where we had our best meal during our stay. Jeffrey went above and beyond the call of duty by calling ahead to ensure our dining experience was top notch. Also, a thank you to Kirk for following up. Will definitely look at holiday inns in a new light.
