“Family Fun”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 6, 2014

We had a family gathering at The Great Wolf Lodge in Williamsburg and had a great time there. We had 10 people, and two rooms and the rooms were nice overall. One of them was a Kids Lodge, and the 4 children loved it there with their own beds and TV in the room. Everything about the rooms was perfectly nice, with a microwave and frig. Everything was clean and seemed well taken care of. As for the park, we had a blast in the water park, doing all of the different water rides. Beyond the water attractions though, they have a lot of other family activities to do. All of the kids enjoy doing the MagicQuest, roaming through GWL to try to solve the mystery. They also loved the arcade there.

The service was very good. On our first night there, the hot water was out for a while. In the morning, they had a letter for every room, stating the problem and then giving us a free breakfast buffet (which was excellent) and a free night's stay at GWL at the same level of room that you had. I was very impressed by that, since most places wouldn't go that far in what they were doing for not having hot water.

Overall, we had a great time at GWL and are looking forward to returning their in the future.

Great Wolf Lodge was such an amazing experience from our family - from the water park to the lodge feel. They did an amazing job. The room, itself, was definitely "worn". It was clean, but very basic and a few areas of chipped paint. Honestly, we didn't spend much time in the room because were in the water park the majority of the day or taking in all the other experiences and attractions there. It was fine for sleeping and getting ready each day. But don't expect spectacular or anything that will blow your mind.

Room Tip: Ask for a room closer to the water park/check in area. The closer you can get, especially if walking...

My daughter has begged for a trip to GWL for years. For her 16th birthday I brought her and her two best friends from a Sunday to a Tuesday. I'm assuming that since I've barely laid eyes on them for three days that they are having fun! We got the summer special with a Family Suite so a half wall could separate us when needed. I like being able to do my own thing and let them wander in and out with the freedom that teenagers crave. The two double beds were perfect. The summer special came with $25 resort credit each day so $50 total and we added the Birthday Package for about $70 (see below). If you figure that the price of the package comes with a $40 resort credit then you are really only paying $30 for the cake and balloons. The balloons last just a few hours which is a shame. The cake was decent and our daughter liked having her name on the cake and the poster on the door (if you check in early as we did the Birthday items won't be ready til closer to 4pm). I supplemented with items from the dollar store and Walmart just minutes away. You can arrange to have all the credits on one or more wristbands so I had them all put on one wristband and gave it to the birthday girl. This made it easy not to be doling out $. We brought breakfast, lunch and snack food and the half fridge and large counter in the room fit everything. We ate out at The Huntsman's Grill the first night and were supposed to get a 5% discount when showing the GWL wristbands. We didn't. Prices and food good enough if you don't want to eat in the resort and want to walk to food. I'm sure I might have enjoyed GWL as a parent of young children but as I look around I wonder. :)

So we had looked forward to going to Great Wolf lodge for quite sometime. We arrived and check in took quite a while. We went up to our room and changed into our suits. My complaint about the slide area is: One slide was out of order but instead of putting a sign at the bottom of the stairs you had to walk up to the top to find out. Then another pet peeve of mine is that many people did not have swim pass wrist bands on. The resort is not enforcing there rules and those of us who follow rules suffer. We would have brought our 2 childrens 2 friends had we known we could have not paid extra and still gone. The water area outside is a nice break to get some fresh air. But the place is really crowded due to people booking a room and bringing a ton of people for free. My other pet peeve is the only restaurant there in the evening is a buffet. After we swam all day we looked forward to a quite evening but the rooms on either sides of us had other plans. They were in and out banging doors and being loud till 2am and had tons of people too. But I am not sure even if quite how much sleep I would have gotten as the bed was hard as a rock. The next morning we woke up and the receipt was slid under the door. Good thing I checked it out as they did not give me credit for my gift card and my company promo code. getting it straightened out was a pain. We will not be coming back as I voiced my concerns many times and was told we will make note of it. ugh.

This was a wonderful spur of the moment stay for our kids! We were vacationing in Virginia, and the weather for a couple days was not looking good. With that being said we surprised them with an overnight at Great Wolf Lodge! They had been begging to go, so we figured since it was raining, why not! The booking was super easy, and they even offered a hero discount for my husband who is a police officer! We were able to check in early, and the room was clean, big, and super comfortable.
Not only was our room great but the hotel was packed with things to do. The indoor water-park was wonderful and our whole family had a blast! There were rides to enjoy for all of us, from my 4 year old right up to my husband! The water was clean, and perfect temperature, and the lines were not too long at all. After playing at the water-park all day we went offsite to the restaurant right across the street (I don't remember the name) but the food was good and the service was great!
The hotel offers so much to do, it's like a little city inside! They even had a Dunkin Donuts right onsite!! We went bowling, we played in the arcade, went to the ice cream shop, and we purchased some Magic Packages for the girls! The Paw-Pass we got for each of our girls included so much stuff - and they were able to join the other kids in the hotel in the scavenger hunt throughout the entire place! Magic wands and story books, digital animation and they felt like Harry Potter!
We highly recommend this for a family getaway, our only gripe is that we should have stayed longer!!

We were really disappointed with condition of the Williamsburg Great Wolf. We have been coming here for several years. It has be me our back-to-school tradition with the kiddos. This year, though, it looks old, run down, and a little sad.

We brought the grandparents, so we splurged and got the Majestic room with two bedrooms and two baths. Two of the ceiling ducts looked like they had recently had water leaks, and the wallpaper in the kids' bathroom had sections cut out of it. The elevators are all beat up and look like those in the subways. The Waterpark pipes are rusting. All-in-all, we assumed that the economy hurt the property, so they cut costs by cutting maintenance. They aren't even folding the park towels any more: when you ask for towels, they pull them out of the giant, tangled bin and hand them to you in a pile.

The kids still had a blast, and they didn't notice the condition of the place. It's still a great compromise for parents that want to spend time in W-burg and kids that don't. And the staff was as friendly and helpful as ever. But I sure hope they put some money into cleaning the place up before we return next summer.

The Great Wolf Lodge is ok in terms of room finishes and amenities. The bathroom is basic. The complex is massive and the best part was the key card less bracelet system which made the trip to the pools much easier. But if you've ever been to Wisconsin Dells and stayed at some of the resorts there, this water park was disappointing. Water temperature was decent but half of the features of water activities were non-functioning. Outside pool closed early. There's an array of activities for kids to do, just be ready to pay a pretty penny.

Jennie,

Thank you for visiting Great Wolf Lodge – Williamsburg! I am saddened to learn you did not enjoy your waterpark experience. The outdoor pool closes at dusk for the safety and consideration of our guests. The lower light conditions can potentially not allow our lifeguards to watch their water as effectively as during the day.

We hope to see you again soon!
