“Convenient location; annoying problems”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 13, 2013

I see all the great reviews this place has gotten and I'm feeling a little bad. But here is my perspective. We reserved three apartments--two two-bedroom and one three-bedroom--and the space is adequate and laid out well. The entire family is here. The decor, despite the granite, is dated and depressing. There are two huge pantries in the kitchen, which I wish I could have at my house, but they're just wasted space here. I've been under the weather and have spent two days in the unit. All of today has been taken up by a huge elderly lawn mower-- first in front and now out back. It is spewing gas fumes--did not pass inspection?--and it's making me sicker. Sitting on the balcony is nauseating. The rail hasn't been cleaned in many years. There's a half inch gap right at my sight line and it's filthy. The rest of it is studded with old and new spider webs with inse cts both living and dead (in case you get bored) and of course all sizes of spider busy at work. The worst part of this place is the Internet. The free connection is only two bars of connectivity--took all day to read email. So, not having a great time here.

This property is beautiful. Stayed in a 3bd Deluxe unit, granite countertops, nice view, excellent layout, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Staff was very friendly at check-in. Thought the security at the front gate was also a plus. Best part was that this resort was convenient to everything! HIghly recommend.

For my family's stay in Williamsburg, we used our timeshare to stay at Governor's Green. Upon arrivial, I noted immediately that the property was stunning. The condos were grouped in huge mansion like stuctures. It honestly looked like an old plantation. The room was equally lovely. We stayed in a huge 3 bedroom 2 bathroom unit. There was plenty of closet space and the living room was very nice. We cooked every night and the kitchen was more than adequate.
The service was amazing as soon as we arrived. The front desk and the presentation-sellers both helped us out a lot with location. That being said, interactions with management went from friendly to civil after we declined attending the timeshare presentation.
The location was very central to the historical triangle. Williamsburg, Yorktown, and Jamestown are all within a half hour. There's some great shopping ten or fifteen minutes away and Busch Gardens is about a half hour away.
Overall I would definitely recommend staying here. The rooms and property were lovely and the location was convenient.

EXCELLENT - Huge three bedroom unit with two full baths, great kitchen with full refrigerator, stove, microwave, toaster, dishwasher, place settings for eight or ten, serving bowls/platters, cookware, tumblers, utensils - even a cork screw and wine glasses! Cooked almost all meals there and really enjoyed our home cooked meals on vacation.

Loved the jetted tub and even though my husband still left the closet door open after using the safe, the bathroom was so big, I didn't really mind.

The washer and dryer really helped us save space packing as we didn't have a tremendous amount of room in our car for luggage.

Great location about 6 minutes from Colonial Williamsburg and parallel to Richmond Road with lots of options for dining and shopping.

VERY GOOD - Furniture quality, cleanliness of unit and grounds.

AVERAGE - Distance to Busch Gardens and Water Country USA. If you need to hop from park to park, it may be better to stay between CW and BG.

Not many activities. Limited to puzzles, board games, putt-putt, swimming, pool and movie night. No real animation staff, but I don't think that many people expect that.

Lack of trees. The Williamsburg area is very lush and well forested, but this property is wide open with very little shade. They've planted some trees, so I'd expect this to improve in the future.

Some staff were excellent while some were less than personable, bordering on condescending.

POOR - Maintenance of pool water. Hot tubs were very foamy and the main pool was turbid almost the entire week, although the main drain was visible. The indoor pool lacked proper ventilation and the chloramines made it difficult to enjoy.

TERRIBLE - Time share presentation that claimed to be an explanation of the points system. Having been through a few of these, we knew what to expect. We were of course leary, but were assured that we'd be out in one hour after breakfast. We should have known better. We finished breakfast at 9:10am and finally got out after many delays and refusals and asking for our gift card etcetera at 11:30am - a half day wasted!

Overall, we'd stay at Governor's Green again, but would steer clear of the presentation.

The resort is very nice. Units are clean and well kept. One bit of advice get ride of AT&T. They are providing Horrible internet access. As with most resorts and some hotels they have been sold a very expensive internet package that leaves the guest with crap service. The executaves with the resort need to get out of the package they have been sold. Go with HIGH SPEED CABLE and give the geust the service they expect. Upload 0.06MB & download 0.21MB. PATHETIC! Come on guys is this part of the guest experience you want to give? Spend less and give the guest more..... T1's can not give the speed needed.

Stayed here with my in-laws, husband and two kiddos (3 and 1 y/o). The grounds are beautiful. It's well laid out. Our two bedroom condo was spacious and beautiful. Very clean! We stayed three nights, so we were pretty booked. Of course, they tried to get us to a sales presentation. They were a little pushy and did call us at 9AM, fortunately we were all awake. Other than that, it wasn't terrible. We weren't in the room much, so if they tried to contact us we didn't get it.

The location is great! Very close to many things. I do recommend this property, just be aware that they will try to sell you.

Other tip: Not a bad thing, just an FYI--because of the washer/dryer facilities in the condo they will not bring you any extra towels.

Room Tip: We had a ground level floor. You could hear people, but it wasn't that bad.

We spent a week here from 5 to 12 May 2013 in a 3 bedroom unit.
The resort is well maintained and cared for, the grounds and public areas are very well kept. Check in was smooth and easy and although busy when we arrived it was quite quick. The unit itself was spotlessly clean and well equipped, the sofa/sleeper was in poor condition but staff had warned us they had been replaced but were sub substandard and were in the process of being replaced again. Our unit was on the ground floor overlooking green area a lake& fountain and we spent time watching the antics of the resident wildlife. Their is entertainment provided on site but we didn't partake spending mst of our time in Colonial Williamsburg and the surrounding area. Their are no restaurants on site but dozens are within a 10 minute drive to cater for every taste and budget..
If you buy food to cook yourself the iris a grocery depot in the nearby WalMart but Martins or Fresh Market area out 10 mins away and have a much better choice. Shopping is everywhere with an outlet mall about 5 minutes away.

Room Tip: The buildings are on three floors their is an elevator available, however we had a ground floor unit...
