I spent one week for this first time at the Colonies.
This place is beautiful. I have never spent an extended period of time in Virginia, but I hope to visit this place again. The property is very large, so it is probably best to have your own vehicle.
The staff is very nice, friendly and courteous. They have 2 pools on the property. One indoor and one outdoor.
Unfortunately, due to the time of year, the outdoor pool was closed and the heater for the indoor was broken. So the pool was on the cold side and the hot tubs obviously were not working.
We had a 2 bedroom unit. The master bedroom consisted of a king size bed, stand up shower and large vanity with a flat panel TV. The second bedroom had a queen bed, flat panel TV and a whirl pool tub. It was very clean, neat and organized. One thing that I noticed and will remember about this resort is the security level. You will either be assigned an A or B suite and a number. There is a door on the very outside of the unit which a key card is required, a door on your unit number which a key card is required and your specific unit letter which once again requires a key card.
There were 2 tennis courts on the property as well as basketball hoops inside the pool.
About a mile down the road is a very large outlet mall with stores such as Hugo Boss, Calvin Klien, Brooks brothers men and women, bath and body works, gap, Oakley and so many more. There are all sorts of restaurants just minutes from the colonies. These include Olive Garden, Applebees, Red Lobster, Golden Corral and many pancake houses. The resort offers a lot of activities from wine tastings, tours to ghost tours. I personally participated in the wine tasting and Williamsburg tour. Both were put on very nicely and consisted of actors from Colonial times answering questions and telling stories. The actors portray their parts very well.
If you have the opportunity to visit this resort, I recommend doing so.
One last thing to mention, there is a lot of construction going on right now on what will be Pennsylvania Ave. I was in Massachusetts court which is adjacent to PA Ave, and I was not disturbed by the construction one time. You can hear it if you are outside on the balcony, but it is not necessary to shout over construction vehicles or equipment. I was never woken up by the noise.
All of the rooms in this resort appear to be the same. Pennsylvania Ave is currently being developed...
