“Birthday weekend getaway”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 15, 2013

We stayed for our annual birthday getaway, the unit was an upstairs unit with a queen bed, loft with 2 twin beds and 2 bathrooms. The unit was very clean, rates were reasonable and the limited interaction we had with staff was very pleasant. The location was very convenient to shopping and restaurants. We didn't have an opportunity to visit the resort restaurant or any of the other services offered, however the grounds were attractive and you could tell care had been given to the property. I would not hesitate to stay here again.

My husband and I stayed for a week in January. The 2 bedroom suite was nice. It's not elegant or a 5 star hotel but it was clean and had plenty of space. The pools are nice and the grounds are well taken care of. The only complaint I had was when I called to have a guest come visit, they said they would not tell me if the surrounding rooms would be vacant so my guest could park for a couple hours. The front desk gentleman working was incredibly rude. Most of the units at the resort were vacant the whole week and you are only given one spot for a 2 bedroom unit. Others have to park at an over flow lot and get a shuttle to the unit. It is one thing in the summer when it is busy but it is obvious that the man at the front desk refused to provide adequate customer service because it was too much effort for him. Also, when we called to see when our mid-week maid service was supposed to come to the room, the woman working the desk was again rude. She told us we would not be getting maid service at all for the week. The service seemed vastly different from the service we received from Diamond Resort's property in Las Vegas, where we stayed just weeks before. The Vegas property had excellent customer service while the Historic Powhatan Resort did not. The people working in customer service seemed lazy and like helping us was not worth their time.

We’re sorry to read your comments regarding the customer service you received at the Historic Powhatan Resort. The situation you describe is in no way representative of the standards of service we strive to uphold, and we’re very sorry for the impression that you’ve gained on this occasion.

We really hope that this issue didn’t spoil an otherwise enjoyable stay at the Historic Powhatan Resort, and we’d love for you to return here. We hope we’ll see you again!

Stayed using some timeshare discount. For the price this place was nice. The grounds and things they have to do seemed nice. We stayed in a two bedroom and it was big. Our bedroom however had no tv and the sink faucet did not work. I'm sure they would have fixed the faucet but we didn't even complain. My only issue was not having a tv. And the bed was small

This property is a timeshare resort owned by Diamond International. We recently stayed in one of their rental units with 2 br. 2 ba. kitchen, dining, etc. It was terrific and reasonably priced. We were approached only once about being a timeshare owner which I didn't find annoying at all.

Room Tip: We had a second floor condo which was fine with us. The place was pretty much deserted anyway.

We stayed for a few days leading up to New Years. We asked for a renovated suite but got instead a two-bedroom that was in good condition. Here are the pros and cons as I see them to this resort. Previously, we stayed at the Best Western in Williamsburg. On the pro side, we travel with a family, and we appreciate and use the full kitchen, which was adequately stocked with pots, dishes, etc. We did not visit the on-site market since I googled a Trader Joes that was only 5 minutes away by car. We had all our breakfasts in house and even a lunch and dinner. The other big pro was the space. For a reasonable price, my children had a separate bathroom and bedroom from my husband and me. Our bedroom had an old, small Zenith tv, but the living room had a very large modern flat screen. We had an upstairs suite and although we did not have a jacuzzi, we did not have any problem with noise as was reported in some reviews.

On the con side, my kids enjoyed the indoor swimming pool at the Best Western and here you have to make a cold side trip to get to the pool. Based on other reviews, I was worried we would get there and find the pool over- capacity, so we didn't even try. I think having the pool on-site in the winter would be a big plus. The other issue was the internet. In a day and age where most places have complementary, we didn't want to pay $7/ per device per 24 hours. Some of us ended up getting wifi free on the phone, but my husband tried to purchase for one of the Ipads and ended up having a hassle.

The furnishings were tasteful, comfortable and adequate (not super attractive). Everything was clean. The only critique on the furnishings was that some of the pressboard furniture had started to deteriorate such as the vanity in the bathroom. Not a big one, but I'm sure it will be in line for updating. Additionally, the location was convenient. Overall, a good pick but not sure we would stay again.

P.S. We were not interested in a time share so we decided not to answer the phone.

My husband and two kids stayed here over the Christmas Holiday. The grounds are well kept. The rooms are large and comfortable with lots of pillows. We stayed in a 2 bedroom unit. The unit was very clean and well taken care of. One of the two bedrooms did not have a TV in the bedroom. We do not watch TV so it was not a problem for us. We wanted to watch a DVD in the living room and it took about 45 minutes for the repair person to get to our room to fix the issue so we ended up not watching the DVD.

Overall I would consider an excellent option specially since we were upgraded for free and through one of the links in this website we got a good deal.

I recommend this place highly as a good place to stay. It has an excellent location for sightseeing.

Stayed here with family over the Christmas Holiday. Price was very good for overall value of stay. The grounds are beautiful. Very large rooms, plenty of space and full kitchen was great to have. Not too big on the pushy sales pitch at check-in after driving 5 hrs. If you continue to give a firm refusal of interest in time-share you can keep it under 5 minutes.

Family enjoyed a round of mini-golf on a clean, well kept mini-golf course. Pool and hot tub facilities were clean except the changing rooms could use a good scrubbing.

We also enjoy a ghost hunt on the grounds with other guests. We love when businesses incorporate a little local history in an entertaining way for families.

The rooms are a bit outdated and had several things broken, but we were doing alot of siteseeing and did not have time to wait around for maintenace. (Bathroom light in master bathroom needed replaced, fan in master bedroom was loud, blind in 2nd bathroom was broke). The couch in living room was horrible - there was no cushion at all left and all you could feel was the metal bed frame digging into your legs. Expected an electric fireplace but got a wood burning fireplace - that was dissapointing. There were no fireplace tools like ash shovel or poker so we could not even use the fireplace! Large bedrooms with comfortable bed and pillows. Would've preferred a fitted sheet that stayed on bed better. Had problems with other tenant and parking - security responded quickly but did not resolve the issue then had to wait 1/2 hr nfor them to return to handle the problem correctly - perhaps front desk should explain parking better to guests so others don't have to be inconvenienced,

I do not reccomend The Bar & Grille Restaurant here. We went for the Christmas Day Dinner Buffet wich was about $31.00 per person (that price did not include alcohol purchases). The main course was "supposed to have been" prime rib. My son and I got a small cold piece and hubby was told had to wait for new one to come out to carving station in about 10 minutes. Ten minutes later we were told about 10 more minutes, and then ten minutes later this was repeated. Had to wait about 15 minutes just for a clean plate! Hubby never did get any prime rib. Rest of food was okay at buffet, not great. Saw other customers getting annoyed too - very dissapointing. After complaining and waiting for a long time they did give us a discount on our meals but still was not enough to make up for problems we experienced. Still had to pay too much for what we got - we were there for the prime rib not pasta salad or fish.

Location was convenient to local attractions.

Overall our experience was not bad for the price we paid. We would stay here again but after reading other reviews would ask for one of the newly renovated rooms.

Room Tip: Ask for newly renovated room.
