We stayed here (3 adults, 3 kids aged 5-10) for 6 nites in mid-June. We did pay about $200/nite and it was worth every penny. This was about the price of 2 connecting rooms in the budget hotels, but we got a vastly superior experience.
We stayed at a unit on the far side from the common areas, but it was still easy to walk for all of us. It was great to be able to go to the pool on Saturday afternoon/evening after a long day of travel. The kids made friends and swam with them later in the week. The pool is lovely, but not luxurious. Definitely much nicer than average hotel pools, however. We also rented DVD's, played ping-pong and mini-golf (a charge for that). There are small playgrounds near each of the buildings and the kids used those daily.
The unit itself was very clean. The master suite was huge, with whirlpool tub the kids loved. 2sinks and pleasant shower also. The pullout couch was average. 2nd BR had queen bed and connected to the 2nd full bath. Kitchen was typical condo-sized and fully-appointed. Huge dining room table-great for board games and cards too!
The patio faced a large stagnant pond. Luckily it didn't smell, but you do need bug repellent after dark. When the 5 yr old needed a nap, the others could sit on the patio or watch tv without disturbing her. Try doing that in a hotel!
Some tips if you will be staying here:
--Say 'no' 2 or 3 times at the check-in when they try to rope you into the presentation (when you get your parking passes and they start to ask what attractions you'll be visiting). Done.
--We called and they said toiletries were supplied. Well, technically true, but bring your own or just run to the store to buy. Same with laundry detergent. You get a tiny supply.
--You get 6 beach towels/condo for your whole stay-no exchanging. We just used the dryers (which are slow). We did need to launder bath towels once-it's not full-service folks.
--Great location. Lots of shopping and restaurants. A very nice large park is located toward the main road. You are very close to the Jamestown attractions and Colonial Williamsburg-easy to come back for lunch/rest/air conditioning. Yorktown is about 30 mins away, so easier to plan for the whole day before leaving.
--Indoor pool has been closed for months and there was no effort at repairing it that we saw, so beware in the winter.
