We had two 2-bdrm units in bldg 19- one for my family of 4 and the other for our cousins' family of 4. You opened a door to a foyer, and there was one unit on each side of the foyer. The experience was of having a four bedrm house with 2 kitchens and 4 baths! Much more than I had hoped for when I requested units close to eachother! They were very spacious, clean, well supplied, with great linens and master baths. Buidling 19 must be one of the newer ones, because it was just lovely and had nice views It was also adjacent to the main clubhouse, pool and tennis court area, making it easy to go back and forth. Other units were further down the road, and would have required driving to the pool area. Important to request a unit near the pool! The pool was clean and large, the cabana served great margaritas, and each afternoon the activity staff served treats like ice cream. Upon registration, the concierge gave us a sheet with accurate directions to all the main sites. We were asked only one time if we cared to participate in a time share presentation and receive a $100 visa. We really liked the resort, staff and felt it more than met our needs and expectations in Williamsburg.
Williamsburg is a great place to visit. These are recommendations based on our experience only. We were there with 4 adults and 4 kids aged 8-13. We purchased the 7-4-1 attraction tickets online through the Williamsburg Hotel Assn, and picked them up at their office upon our arrival. This saved us something like $80 over buying them at the visitors center. They allowed access to Busch Gardens, Water Country USA, Jamestown Settlement, Jamestown, Yorktown and Colonial Williamsburg for 7 days. It allowed free parking at Busch and Water Country. You could go to more than one place in a day. Similar to a Disney Park Hopper pass. I didn't think we would use this. But, one day we went to Jamestown Settlement in the morning until around 3, and then went to Water Country until 8PM to cool off. Another day, it was extremely hot and humid, so we stayed at the pool until 3, then went to Busch Gardens for the evening when it was cooler. It's a good deal, and we used it every day, sometimes twice a day. It ended up saving us about an additional $80 in parking fees because we had 2 cars.
Our kids liked Colonial Williamsburg, but only lasted one day there. The adults would have spent 3 days there. The kids really liked Jamestown Settlement, and learned alot there. They don't really advertise this, but they give a tour of the museum at 11 and 3 each day. The tour guide was fabulous with the kids and really explained things on a level they could easily grasp. He also got my husband through the museum without stopping to read each and every display, and taking the entire day! . Get there so you can watch the introductory movie and 10:30, then onto the tour at 11. Of course, we all liked Busch Gardens and Water Country.
We went to the "Medley of Entertainments," a show sold through the Williamsburg Visitor center. I had read good things about it, and it was the evening activity we selected because a few of our children weren't really into the "Ghost" walk idea. I thought the Medley was hilarious, as did my husband and our kids. The other family didn't care for it as much. It's definitely different!
On a final note. Williamsburg is a hot and humid place in the summer. If you can, go in the spring or fall. (Xmas is also nice). Or, if like us, you have kids and going in the summer is pretty much your best option- go in June. It gets al ot hotter (and HUMID) as summer progresses.
