My wife and I had a great time in Williamsburg mainly because our stay at The Bentley Manor Inn was so nice. The Inn was clean and nicely decorated. The breakfasts were great...perfect to start a day of walking and sight-seeing. Our hosts Fred and Jane were so nice and treated us like old friends. It was hard to leave. I would highly reccomend this Inn if you want to explore Williamsburg.

Coming back after a year I found the place even more lovely than the first time. Alwyas nice touches and still as fresh and clean even after a year. I really appreciated the location as the weather was warm and I could walk to and from the Colonial district. Food was excellent and the owners are genuine hosts. Last year I promised to return and now I am making plans for a Spring visit.

We decided to go to Colonial Williamsburg for a few days. After carefully screening other hotels and B&Bs in the area, we confidently decided on Bentley Manor Inn for two main reasons:
1) They were running a fantastic special of stay two nights and get the third night free, and the special was good 7 days a week (most properties just offered this Mon-Thu)
2) We read wonderful reviews about the Inn. As someone who works in the hotel industry, I knew it had to be special to get such positive consistent ratings across the board.

When we made our reservation, we spoke with Fred Garland who, along with his wife Jane, owns and runs the inn. He gave us a choice of which room we would stay in, and we chose the Captain John Smith room, which we loved! However, after seeing all the rooms there, we would have been pleased in any of them. The rooms are even more beautiful in person than the pictures on the internet.
We arrived around 2pm, but Fred told us we could check in whenever it was convenient to us. Fred immediately welcomed us and showed us around the inn. He also gave us a great map, along with suggestions for dining and activities. Throughout our stay, he and Jane gave us such great suggestions for local restaurants. We had an idea before we came which restaurants we'd go to, and Fred and Jane's suggestions were so much better.
The room was pristine and spacious. We had a beautiful bed, a large private bathroom, and a closet that held a small refrigerator. There was also an ample selection of books that Fred and Jane had collected over the years that were fun and interesting.
Breakfast was OUT OF THIS WORLD every day. Jane collects china and I have never eaten off such pretty plates. We had juice and coffee every morning. The coffee was by far the best I have ever had. We got a lovely little fruit and yogurt cup every morning. Jane always gave us a choice of two entrees. While we were there we had Apple Danish French Toast, Sour Cream Apple Pancakes, Cranberry French Toast Stuffed with Cream Cheese, Sweet Potato Pancakes, and a delicious omelette.
We sat around every morning for about an hour and just talked to Fred and Jane. They are fascinating and personable.
After returning from our activities each day, Jane had bottled water and either cookies or brownies set out. Not to mention the scrumptious candy dish in the common area and each bedroom.
I must also mention that I was visiting over my birthday. I do not want to give away Fred and Jane's surprises, but I will say that they truly went above and beyond to make my birthday special. It was the little touches from them that made my birthday so memorable.
We were originally scheduled to stay Wednesday-Saturday, but we had such a great time we opted to stay another night. I have never in my life met two people so passionate about hospitality as Fred and Jane. We will most definitely return to the Bentley Manor Inn. Words cannot describe the truly lovely experience we had there. I could go on forever about the inn and its delightful keepers.

My husband and I had been to Williamsburg once before, found it lovely, and wanted to come back for New Year's Holiday.

We were a bit overwhelmed with the choices of B&Bs in the area, and ended up picking Bentley Manor due to the reviews, location, and web site pictures.

I will tell you that everything surpassed our expectations. First, the B&B is beautiful. Very intimate and warm, on a great QUIET street. Yet it is within walking distance to shops, restaurants, Colonial Williamsburg, and many other things - a huge plus. It is also very, very easy driving distance to New Town, where we had dinner and shopped. If you are looking for THE perfect location, this is it.

Our room, the Captain John Smith room was great - flat screen TV, huge bathroom, spotlessly clean, very comfortable bed. We poked our head in a few other rooms and they are all unique, but all equally nice. One of the nice things is that although the rooms have all the modern comforts, they also have the character and charm of Williamsburg. A perfect balance. The perfect "tasted" of Williamsburg.

There is a wonderful sitting area downstairs with a great fireplace. The night we stayed there was a fire going, and we were offered wine, water, and delicious brownies that Jane had made.

Breakfast is unbelievable, with a few different choices offered, and is truly gourmet - yummy!. You will definitely not need lunch! Served in a great dining room with beautiful built ins, and happily not too early so you can sleep in a little!!

Although all of this is enough to make for an outstanding stay, it is the owners - Fred and Jane - who truly make this an experience not to be missed. They are some of the warmest, most hospitable people we have met, yet truly professional in that you will not feel bothered, only pampered. The consummate innkeepers (or should I say B&B owners). They helped us with dinner reservations, driving directions, maps, events in the area, things to see nearby, what we could walk to, carried our luggage, helped with parking, and are a wealth of information about the area. They truly care that you have a great time, and their love for the area is evident.

What more can you ask for - perfect location, perfect accommodations, perfect hosts, and extremely reasonable cost. We had a great time, and were sad to leave. But when we return, we know now there is only one place we would consider staying in Williamsburg - The Bentley Manor!

Jane & Fred Garland are ideal B&B owners. From the moment my wife & I arrived until the day we left, we were made to feel very welcome. They have done an outstanding job in creating a very warm, beautiully decorated & extremely comfortable bed & breakfast. Each morning, we were served a delicious breakfast with a yogurt fruit cup, choice of juice, coffee & a choice of one of two entrees. Additionally, they each found time to spend with us & engage us in very interesting, informative conversation. We were only there two days but in that time, we felt that we had found two new friends.
