“Wonderful Homecoming”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 25, 2011

My husband and I had a wonderful stay at the Williamsburg Sampler. The beds were fantastic and this is the first B&B that I've stayed in that had body jets in the shower. The food was great and the atmosphere was warm and inviting. It was the perfect stay for Homecoming and we hope to be back soon.

My husband and I stayed for one night, but loved this very charming Bed and Breakfast. Our room was cozy and the breakfast was delicious. I especially liked the king size bed. Ike, the owner is a great guy. Also, the house is right down the street from Merchant Square! We plan on staying there again.

Williamsburg Sampler is the perfect B&B! It is loaded with old world charm and atmosphere. Upon our arrival we immediatly felt at home. The owner greeted us, gave us a tour, inviting us to make ourselves at home. We stayed in the King Williams Suite, a two room suite, with a large walk in closet, balcony, and private bathroom. All the rooms were beautiful (yes, I had to peek) and well decorated within the theme of the B&B. The pictures on the website do not do it justice, this is a true gem). The B&B is conviently located to Colonial Williamsburg, Jamestown, and Yorktown as well as near great shopping and wonderful resturants. The owner made wonderful reccommendations for places to dine during our three day stay. Breakfast every morning was wonderful and prepared you for a full day of sightseeing and shopping. On my next visit, and yes there will be one, because three days is not enought time to see everything, I will stay in the John Smith Suite.

Room Tip: I peeked into every room and they were all lovely, however the two Suites share a balcony in the bac...

We looked long and hard for a quality B&B within walking distance of Colonial Williamburg, that would accept dogs. We eventually found a real gem in the Williamsburg Sampler.

The B&B is nicely located about five minutes drive from the historic area or a 15 min walk. The rooms are very comfortable with huge King Sized beds and are all well appointed. The bathrooms are clean and spacious and the showers are great!

Ike the proprietor, was very welcoming and was happy to give us a tour of his home and his remarkable collection of antiques, collected from all over the world. There are two lounge areas for guests on the ground floor and a games room in the basement with large TV and pool table.

We had two rooms the 'The Eliza Reynolds' and the 'Lord Nelson' and would happily recommend them to anyone considering visiting Colonial Williamsburg.

Our stay was like a vacation from our vacation. We felt refreshed and relaxed. We were provided with every comfort of home and more. This home was built to be a B&B, not someone's home converted to one. We could have spent 3 days here and still not explored everything this B&B with colonial architecture and decor has to offer. We stayed in the Captain John Smith Suite which included a sitting room and outdoor patio area. Our quarters had a fireplace, TV, small fridge & sink, all blended in with the period furniture. Our 4 poster king bed was very comfortable. The bathroom had modern features and the extra shower heads were wonderful. Our gracious host Ike made us feel welcome, gave us a tour, and left us to explore on our own. Many amenities including a billiards room, some gym equipment & sauna. We were served a sumptuous breakfast prepared by Ike himself and he accommodated our special requests. Although on a main throughfare it js somewhat hidden, we drove past twice before we found it. Is is located conveniently to the places we visited. We loved the Williamsburg Sampler B&B and highly recommend it!

I can't say enough good things about the Williamsburg Sampler. My husband and I have stayed in a lot of bed and breakfasts, and this absolutely ranks in the top two. We stayed in the John Smith suite, which was awesome: very spacious and lovely with beautiful antiques and dark wood trim (I don't think the pictures on the internet do the rooms justice). Although the other rooms are great, if you are going to be spending any amount of time in the room I highly recommend spending the extra 20 or so to stay in the John Smith or the King William if they are available. These rooms have a spacious sitting room attached to the bedroom with two wingback chairs and a daybed (not a bad feature if your spouse snores, or you're tossing and turning and don't want to wake your spouse, etc.). There is a TV/VCR player in the sitting room, and my hubby and I spent a rainy evening watching a movie from Ike's collection curled up on the daybed. There is also a sink and a small refrigerator in the room with a compartment that holds a wine bottle upright--which is a pretty clever feature.
The bathrooms in the inn all have showers, not tubs, but ours was a great size and even had a couple of additional jets that my husband really liked. We are kind of spoiled by our mattress at home, and often don't sleep well out, but the mattress was fantastic, and king sized, which was a nice treat for us.
The inn was extremely clean - don't be concerned about reviews from years ago that make complaints about cleanliness - if there was a problem way back then it is definitely fixed. We briefly met the maid, who seemed like a really lovely lady, and she does a great job.
We wished we had more time to spend in the area and at the Sampler, we didn't have time to enjoy the inviting reading room or the basement theater and pool table, nor did we spend time on the charming balcony that overlooked the gardens in the backyard (shared with the King William suite next door).
Breakfasts were delicious, thoughtful, and creative. Breakfasts are served at 8:30 each morning, and on our first morning when there were other guests we were served at a common table. We really enjoyed talking with the other guests.
Although this is a great place to spend a busy weekend, this would also be a fantastic place to spend a relaxing weekend, say if you don't have a bunch of destinations you are trying to squeeze in. My husband and I are planning to come back as soon as we can.
