“If you have a dog.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 5, 2014

We have stayed here multiple times. They have a section called Cascades. It is an older 50s style motel that is part of Woodlands. It is clean and very neat and comfortable. There is plenty of towels. The location is great. It is much cheaper then the main Woodlands next door. You get free breakfast and all the pools access and new splash park. You are right at the visitors center. It is old but we'll worth it. Most important it is dog friendly. The Cascades section is not on the map so you need to ask for it. If you have a pet then this is the place for you.

We stayed at the hotel for 2 days, it was very clean, staff was very friendly and helpful! Breakfast was good! The hotel had a very nice pool, the location was great also if you were planning on going to see colonial Williamsburg. The hotel is within walking distance, however there is a shuttle bus that takes you around which is also nice when its really hot outside! I would definately recomend this hotel!

Perfect for our family visit! We had a comfortable and clean room, which served the four of us well. Although, there is so much to do, you really only need the room for sleeping. We took advantage of the hotel's discounts on Colonial Williamsburg tickets. Each evening the hotel offers evening programming, good for the entire family. They also have activities for the kid's in afternoons. And today as we were checking out, they opened the new splash pad. The kids are already asking us to plan a return trip, so they can shoot each other with the water cannons.

1. Colonial Williamsburg (CW) hotel reviews can be confusing---only during special promos do you get the free Colonial day passes; otherwise, you have to purchase them. Just know if staying at one of their official hotels, you can purchase CW tickets at reduced costs at their hotels--I think right now you can get 25% off from Woodlands.
2. After having an issue in our Cascades Motel room (located on the property of Woodlands), we were upgraded immediately to a 2-room king suite by their very caring staff. Thank you, Darren!!!!!). After moving to the new room, we decided to hop in the pool in spite of loud mulching being applied at their new pool are for kids. Mulch had gotten all over the pool (ewwwww) and a manager, Christina came up to assess the situation and said we could utilize the pool at the Williamsburg Lodge instead while they clean up--and we did and their pool are was fantastic (just hopped on the CW bus and hopped off at the Lodge)! (NOTE: the Woodland's new pool area is complete now so no more loud construction noises or mulch stew to worry about!). Later the staff sent us a goody bag to our room with nuts and root beer saying they were sorry for the inconveniences!
3. As frequent flyers to this hotel, we were impressed to see they have spruced-up the mini-golf and ping-pong areas (be sure to apply bug spray though as we experienced a tick this time and also saw the largest tick we've ever seen). FYI--Tom the desk clerk's dad is an exterminator. He helped us with tick info and also in general he was a nice help to us, as are all of the front desk staff.
4. AMENITIES! We have been to CW a lot so we didn't purchase the passes. Still, we had full days. Staying here gives you 1/2 hour free golf clinic and 1/2 hour free tennis clinic and 1/2 hour lawn bowling lesson (you must call to check days and times---you have to investigate this a little because even the CW staff don't know all details since different types of clinics occur on different days---for example, Friday was the kids' tennis clinic and Sat. was putting clinic). Hoy, the tennis pro was fantastic! We enjoyed eating a very affordable lunch outside on the balcony of the beautiful Golden Horseshoe Golf Course. Also, if you'd like at 9:30am you are invited to march from the Williamsburg Lodge to CW with fife and drums (seasonally)! Also, daily they offered poolside games for kids and a magic show or story telling. Also there is a fire pit across from Huzzah's (by the way, if it is nice out, and you are having trouble finding seating for breakfast, you are allowed to sit outside of HUzzah's at their wrought-iron tables (behind the fence). While others were fighting for seats (yes, I overheard an argument---ugh, we enjoyed our "private" breakfast seating-ha!). Having had their free breakfast numerous, numerous times now, I have to disagree with any negative comments---they have a fabulous free breakfast.
5. Benefit comparisons--we can tell this hotel has done a lot to raise the bar. Yes, the breakfast area is hectic. http://www.colonialwilliamsburg.com/stay/guest-benefits/?from=guestbenefitswoodlands If we could afford to stay at the Lodge or Inn, we certainly would but we are highly satisfied with our Woodland's and also usually our Cascades Motel at the Woodlands stay. Sure, I could've griped about our first room, mulch, crowded breakfast, but nah, the overall experience at the Woodland's is sooo positive and it's their staff who make it great for us and is why I am giving the excellent rating (uummm, and the suites are wonderful, too!). Lastly, you've just GOT to go to the Inn to get your free lawn bowling lesson. We loved lawn bowling and also loved touring the Williamsburg Inn and Lodge facilities.

Room Tip: King Suite had two rooms and are really nice!

Had a great stay with my daughters. Room was very clean, roomy, bright and staff was very friendly, gave us extra bath products - 3 females in a room!

We all really enjoyed the pancakes and plentiful breakfasts. Once again the staff kept the dining room very clean and orderly and, despite the crowds we never had to wait for a table. Eating out on the patio was great.

My girls loved the pool and I liked the location so close to the Visitors Center Bookstore. Really a pretty hotel and so many benefits for the low price.

Room Tip: We were on the second floor facing the back. Nice and quite and just around the corner from the back...

I requested a handicapped room. It was on the 2nd floor and three hallways away from the elevator. For a handicapped person who has problems walking this is a long way from the elevator. The food was OK. There was a lot of flies in the dining room. There was not a restaurant at the hotel. All restaurants in Colonial Willliamsburg took a long time to get a table if you did not make reservations. I found better food off the property. Centrally located for all the activities. There are busses to take you to the various points of interest in Colonial Williamsburg. All busses are handicapped assessible.

Room Tip: Ask to see the room to make sure it meets your needs.

Dear Emeldrum,

Thank you for your review and accept our apologies for any inconveniences experienced. Our on property restaurant, Huzzah is open for dinner daily and specializes in barbeque and pizza along with seafood specials and a full bar.

I hope you will consider returning in the future and we will make sure you have a room on the first floor close to the lobby.

Thank you,

My daughter and I had a wonderful time at The Woodlands and visiting Colonial Williamsburg. I want to especially commend the staff at the hotel. There were two women running kids activities every afternoon, and they were extremely enthusiastic and sweet with my daughter. Also, after I checked out I discovered that my car battery was drained. I asked Tom at the front desk if he could help me find a jump. He came outside to the parking lot with me and tried to help me with my rental hybrid which does not have a traditional car battery. His manager, Darren, came out to help us as well. Tom and Darren searched the car for the manual (which was buried in the well of the trunk), It was a sweltering 100 degrees, and they kept at it. Darren got his car and cables and they jumped the car. And after all that, they wouldn't accept a tip because they said I didn't owe them anything. This was my second stay at the Woodlands and I will always stay there in the future. It is extremely well run and very convenient to Colonial Williamsburg.
