“Great Place to stay in Colonial Williamsburg”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 22, 2014

I stayed at the Williamsburg Lodge for 4 nights with my husband and 9 year-old son. We really enjoyed our stay. You cannot beat the location. You walk 2 blocks and you are in the "Revolutionary City." Also, you can get discounted passes for that area right at the hotel. The decor of the hotel and the rooms fits right in with the "colonial" theme. You can also park your car in the covered garage, and just walk to all areas of the colonial city. The breakfast buffet was priced about average ($17.00 for adults and about $10.00 for kids).

The pool area was very nice. There is a "quiet" pool for those over 18 yrs. old, and a "family" pool for the kids. There is food and beverage service available at the pool. My husband also was able to play a round of golf, which is right next to the pool area. Overall, we had a great stay, and I would recommend this hotel.

We could not be more pleased with this resort - It is a top notch, First Class place to stay. We were in the Tyler House - 1st floor. The room was spacious, the beds are comfortable and the room and grounds are immaculate. From the minute we arrived we were greeted at the car by bellman offering assistance with our bags and the service desk person was friendly and very informative. Although the breakfast was not included, it was delicious and again, the service was first class. We traveled with two 18 yr old kids and they had plenty to do - from the spa, to the gym, to the free bikes and pool. The convenience of the parking to the room was also a bonus and again the grounds were beautiful. We purchased our tickets to the city at the Inn and the rates were better than what we could get them for on line. The Inn is within walking distance to the Revolutionary City, so from the minute we parked our car, we did not use it again until was departed 3 days later. We were all pleased with our stay here and would definitely stay again.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Tyler House and it was very quiet, close to parking and to the main building. It h...

And yes this lady is very disappointed..very..

Room Tip: No tips,,just frustrated with spending our hard earned money..

I am disappointed that your experiences in our South Guestrooms were less than satisfactory. This is certainly not the kind of news we like to hear and I have shared your feedback with department leaders for immediate follow up. We always appreciate hearing from our valued guests especially on areas in need of improvement. Please accept my sincere apology for the inconveniences you experienced during your stay. If I can be of any assistance with a future stay we would welcome the opportunity to restore your faith in the Williamsburg lodge.

The hotel itself is nice, the rooms very spacious, beds comfortable, large balconies, nice amenities. You can stay here and be comfortable! We enjoyed our visit. We had three rooms for our party of 9, on the second floor overlooking the courtyard.

We experienced only minor issues:
-One of our room phones didn't work, and the other was not programmed properly.
-The bathtub was in need of recaulking, as the caulk was black with mildew in several areas, which is not acceptable.
- I felt that the front desk staff was not very friendly and when I asked them some simple questions, they just told me to look in the brochure instead of taking the time to answer the question, even though there were several of them at the desk and nobody waiting. (Example, I asked "Where is Merchants Square from here?" and was curtly told "It's on the map." A better answer would have been "It's nearby, just a block up the road and then one block over, and you'll see it on this map here.")

This hotel caters more toward the business traveler. If you are traveling with kids, they will likely prefer the Woodlands because it has a great pool and splash zone, plus a playset and mini-golf.

However, if you stay at one of the official Colonial Williamsburg hotels, like this one, you can take your kids over to the Woodlands anyway.

The hotel itself is in a great location, right next to the historic area. They have a parking garage, so you can park and then walk all over. Of course, in Williamsburg, you will want a car to get to all the other attractions.

We stayed two nights in the South Building and greatly enjoyed our time. The room was delightful in its colonial feel with wooden paneling, wood floor and pencil post bed. Everything was clean. The bathroom was a bit small but fine for two people. Loved the soap and shampoo. The location is perfect for walking to the Revolutionary City. The staff was helpful and attentive. We will definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: We liked staying on the second floor as some of the first floor rooms did not seem as private - peop...

I LOVE to visit Williamsburg and usually stay at the Woodlands because of family travel. Had the opportunity to stay one night with my husband this past week and we were both completely disappointed by the Lodge. First, a few positives. Lobby was beautiful, meal in the restaurant was very good and toiletries lovely. But, the South building was like a dormitory- claustrophobic and similar to a hostel - located a distance from the main lobby. The floor in our room squeaked like crazy! Worse than any old house. Rug had spots that seemed to be treated but remained very obvious. When we finally went to bed, the clean covering over the blanket pulled back to reveal dark hairs along the edge of the wool blanket. Only one pillow for each guest on the bed and a second, decorative pillow that did not allow for a cover change. So disappointed! The squeaking floor in our room drove us crazy but the dirty bed linens were the worst. At this point my husband was asleep and I just stayed awake hoping the blanket would not touch my face. On Monday morning, at checkout, no one asked how our stay was. I even asked the clerk if there was a way to communicate with the hotel about our stay. This did not provoke any questions and she simply responded that they would send a survey via email at some point. I waited all day, today, for a survey and then decided to post to TrIpAdvisor. Again, I love Colonial Williamsburg, but the South Building in the Williamsburg Lodge is not of the same standard.

Stayed for one night, on our way up to D.C. Arrived late in the evening, front desk staff very friendly. Room was decent size. Very clean and well lit. Bathroom a good size and very clean. Went out for coffee first evening at a little coffee shop that stayed open late. Very nice. Next day, went for breakfast. Only complaint was the price for breakfast buffet - $20 per person. Nice staff though. Spent day visiting historic Williamsburg. Lodge is a very short walk to sights. Will definitely stay here again!
