“Love It!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 29, 2011

Just stayed this past weekend and love it. We have been staying there for the past ten years - about two or three times a year. The staff is friendly, rooms are clean and comfortable and the buffet breakfast is excellent. Only small complaint is the rooms are small compared to other hotels. One evening we complained because they didn't have fresh mint to make our favorite drink. The server told her manager and he made a special trip to get us some. That's service. Also very convenient to everything in Williamsburg. The free shuttle bus to all the historical areas stops in front of the hotel, which is very convenient. Great place and we always look forward to our visits.

Room Tip: Especially like the rooms on the second floor in the main building. Convenient to all services in...

I stayed for a conference sponsored by Colonial Williamsburg, & thus got a reduced rate, otherwise, the standard rates here would make me balk. They can charge a lot bec. it's the closest hotel to the historic district, & of course, that saves you time, but otherwise, this is just a nice, nothing too spectacular big hotel. A Marriott/Hyatt chain type in experience. The rooms are comfortable, not incredibly large. The complex is sprawling. The restaurant onsite is a bit overpriced too & service can be slow.

We stayed one night in a standard room on a quick trip. The main building is so attractive, Williamsburg style. The employees are so friendly and professional - very welcoming. The building that housed our room reminded us of dorms at W&M, which is actually nicer than the typical hotel hallway layout. The room was charming, so much prettier in person than it is online. It's spacious, comfortable and spotless. The room's honey wood paneled walls, birch hardwood floors, and folksy red and blue decor made it feel cozy. The bathroom is small but usable and includes a tub. Because the bathroom was so clean and well-maintained, I found its vintage tile and simple, cottagey aesthetic charming. (Black and white floor tile, white tile in the shower area, white eyelet cotton shower curtain, pedestal sink, folk art print on wall.) I'm not familiar with its dining services so I can't speak to that. The location is perfect, too. We definitely recommend it.

Room Tip: I'm guessing that rooms closest to the main entrance in each building are louder. Honestly, I th...

The whole place was very clean. The employees could not be better. Some items in our room were showing a little wear. We purchased a package with breakfast and colonial williamsburg admission for our 4 night stay. As a bonus we received a $100 gift card and tickets to one of the extra pay park events. All for $208. + We felt that it was a very good value.

We didn't really have anything planned for memorial day, but had always wanted to visit Williamsburg. After some light reading, the Williamsburg Lodge definitely looked like the way to go and I wasn't disappointed in that choice.

The Lodge could not be in a better location. It is no more than a 5 or 10 minute walk to any point of the Colonial attractions, restaurants or shops.

The Lodge's staff also treated us very well. There was a slight room mix-up at check-in. Just a couple minutes after us letting the front desk know, a manager called and moved us to a great corner room set up just like how we wanted.

I feel like the rooms are a bit sparse, but definitely nothing bad. Everything seems like new. The bathroom and all the furniture was spotless and in great shape. The rooms are not too exciting, but that doesn't matter because you're going to spend all your time outside. The pool is just across the street and the surrounding grounds around the hotel are beautifully maintained.

For a quickly planned weekend we both had a lot of fun and with everything in such easy reach we got a lot of relaxing done here at the lodge.

I chose Williamsburg Lodge for our recent visit to Colonial Williamsburg for two main reasons: 1) it's essentially *in* the Historic Area (less than one block walk to the Magazine and the pedestrian-only DoG Street) and 2) the good reputation of Colonial Williamsburg properties. I wasn't disappointed on either count.

The room (we were in the Tyler Guesthouse) was super clean and comfortable. The bed and shower -- which usually count for about 75% of my ratings -- were great, the former being just firm enough and the latter having great water pressure. The room had a mini-fridge, which was a very nice addition. Staff at the desk, in housekeeping, and the bellmen/doormen were all very friendly and helpful. The morning waiters in the Lodge restaurant tended to have a bit of attitude and weren't particularly friendly, but they were definitely an execption to the rule.

The only reasons I can't give this property five stars across the board: The cost of food is very high relative to what's actually served (e.g., $16 for breakfast buffet). Yes, it's good food, but not as good as it's priced; you pay for consistency and convenience. [Food is expensive everywhere within walking distance of Historic Area.] Make certain when you check in to ask for a room that does NOT have a connecting door, since there was a screaming child on the other side of our door and the door does not block the sound of the adjoining occupants at all.

There is no complimentary airport shuttle, even to the close-by PHF airport (see my recommendation in the Forum).

All in all, you can't go wrong here - just make sure you factor the cost of food into your planning (and/or book a package that at least includes breakfast at the Lodge).

Room Tip: Make certain to request a room with no connecting door (unless you're traveling with the people...

The Williamsburg Lodge is a short walk from all the Colonial attractions and a short drive or shuttle from the commercial attractions (Busch Gardens, Water Country, Jamestown, William & Mary College etc.) The grounds are pretty, the surroundings are rich with history, and there is golf and swimming. I'd recommend it for a few days or a long weekend.
