“Enjoyed our stay but .....”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 13, 2013

Enjoyed our stay but doesn't have the same level of service as a typical hotel. We stayed four nights and they never cleaned our room or picked up and changed our towels. They said they would provide that service twice a week. The hotel is very conveniently located to the historic area and most other attractions. The room are average size and the beds were comfortable. Our washer/dryer didn't work and we called for service. The repairman, Carl, came quickly to look at the unit. He couldn't fix it, but offered to take our laundry and dry it for us. A very nice gesture on his part. We found all the staff very responsive. Even though the twice a day service is less than desirable, would probably stay there again.

My wife and I traveled to Williamsburg with our 7-year-old grandson. The attraction was Busch Gardens, which did not disappoint. Westgate also proved to be quite satisfactory and conveniently located, though I agree with those reviewers who say the staff here seem somewhat distracted. I also agree that there might be an element of misrepresentation at the Westgate. It seems to be a time-share. I was not aware of that when I made my reservations (through Expedia). It didn't really matter to us, but I could imagine why it might matter to others.

We arrived at 4:00 (check-in time) and were told, not very graciously, that our room was not ready. Since we were not invited to do anything in particular during our wait, we cooled our heels in an adjacent room with a number of other unhappy campers before going back to the front desk to complain. Finally, we were told that our room was ready, which was welcome news, as we had come with the intention of spending the late afternoon at the pool (which is quite nice, by the way).

Our room was actually a small one-bedroom suite with a kitchenette, which is cited as the reason why no breakfast (complimentary or otherwise) is served at the Westgate. The suite proved to be quite satisfactory, though not much more than that. The complex has neither restaurant nor bar (the latter, if we had been offered a complimentary drink by the front desk, might have made us feel better about waiting for the cleaning crew to finish our room). Oh, well.

A word about breakfast: One of Williamsburg's better pancake houses is just two doors away, so that was convenient.

A word about sleeping in the lobby: After struggling with a chronic cough one night, I tiptoed to the lobby and slept on a couch until being awakened by a staffer who kindly offered me a pillow. I slept more deeply after that, and tiptoed back to bed about two hours later. I never slept in a hotel lobby before.

Would we go back to Westgate? It worked for us, but there was nothing really that would draw us back there, though the location does provide easy access to Colonial Williamsburg and the commercial life of Richmond Road. The price ($315 total for two nights) seemed pretty reasonable.

Everything was great except the staff. They did not seem concerned with helping the customer. We circled the hotel several times looking for our room when the room was inside the hotel all along. Staff did not offer any help until they were asked. Seemed to be more interested in each other rather than the customer. Also they were not uniformly dress as in other resorts we have visited before. Just lacked professionalism every time we entered or left the hotel.

We booked this during their military rate discount promo. We got a 2 bedroom, 2 bath suite with full kitchen and living room. Had a full size fridge, stove, microwave, toaster, blender, pots pans, silverware, and dishwasher. Granite countertops with 4 barstools. Great set up for families. We have 4 children and loved staying there. The pool is great, and they have a 1 foot pool for little ones, and then a deeper pool and also a hot tub. They also have a playground area with slide and climbing area. Only downside was that there was no breakfast option. You do have a kitchen, but the first day we got in late and didn't buy groceries ahead of time.

Roos extremely small, stayed a week and they never cleaned the room. Had to pay for Internet outrageous! Coffee had a daily charge for the little dinky bags. Had to go to the front desk and request towels 3 times. otherwise you dont get any.Stayed at time shares a lot and this was a joke!

Totally misrepresented in all marketing on every site.

Room Tip: Advertised as having a restaurant yeah it s a junky sub shop block away. Rooms horribly small.

Thank you for your feedback regarding your stay. Our colonial inspired suites are offered as studios, one bedrooms and two bedrooms, sizes for every occasion. We apologize if the suite you had was too small for you. Our Housekeeping will typically do a mid week light cleaning and we regret that you did not receive that. Clean towels and linens are available, and we are glad to provide those to you. We do hope that you were able to enjoy the premiere location within walking distance of Colonial Williamsburg, The College of William & Mary and a short drive away from Busch Gardens, Water Country, shopping, restaurants and many other attractions. We hope that you will give Westgate Resorts another opportunity to exceed your vacation expectations.

We purchased our room for one night through Priceline for $74. The room was fabulous! Beyond our expectations. We took advantage of the hot tub that we didn't know was going to be there. I would highly recommend this facility. The staff checked us in quickly and were very friendly.

We spent three days with a group of ten in 5 different rooms and it was so fun! The resort made an effort to locate us all together and gave us discounts on things to do and places to eat. The rooms are lovely and homey and the kitchens are perfect. Historic attractions are close enough to walk and everyone was very, very friendly. There is plenty of coffee, cookies and parking and a nice pool. What's not to like? A great time was had by all!
