“Charming”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 28, 2012

My son and I stayed at Patriots Place over spring break. I enjoyed the quiet and quaint community. The grounds were beautiful. My son enjoyed playing in the playground. The room we had was very nice - full of all the amenities and pretty roomy. The resort was easily accessible off Bypass road and about a mile from Colonial Williamsburg. Went to the owner update and didn't really feel pressured (although the free lunch of a chicken sandwich was a little dry).

The Good: According to the Wyndham personnel, this is an "old property" (they're trying to sell you on the new and improved version around the corner!), but to me, it was quaint and charming! Clean, comfy, beautifully landscaped and maintained. The room was an "interior corrider" access in a building that housed 5-6 units. That actually gave it a bit of a B and B feel. The room had all of the expected "condo" conveniences (full kitchen, iron/board, hair dryer, washer/dryer, etc), but the size and age of the TV was a bit disappointing. There was a DVD player in the LR, but ours didn't work right (loud feedback). Large rooms, very comfy and clean!

The Bad: As with any "vacation resort", they want you to take their tour and hit you with the sales pitch. We rec'd $96 of CW tickets in exchange for our time, but in hindsight, I wish I had just bought the tickets and skipped the sales pitch. We were told that it would last no longer than 60 minutes (promise made by the concierge desk at check-in), but we didn't manage to escape until the 2 hour 15 minute mark! We had planned to attend an event at CW at noon, but the long sales pitch caused us to miss it. On top of that, they didn't want to give us the voucher for the extra vacation because they weren't able to read the hand writing of the concierge - just the typical annoying behavior and attitude that "seasoned" resort travelers have come to expect. This one was no different, tried to sell me a $28k timeshare/points system that would have cost me an additional $1200/yr in maint/fees. I passed, I already own one timeshare and for that much $$, I can punch my Embassy Suites/Hilton card many, many, many times! The whole thing just irritated me more because I missed the George Washington event at CW!!

But if you're looking for a nice condo in a great location, you can't beat Patriot's Place. (just dump the sales pitch)

Well, to start out, we initially enjoyed this place (first 2 days). It was nice and quiet and the places were well equipped with everything you would expect from a vacation rental. Full kitchen, very spacious units, two bathrooms.

The problem is the mice that they do not inform you about. Apparently a few times a year (according to maintenance) mice creep into these units. We woke up on day 3 to find our wrapped granola and fruit bars opened and strewn around the kitchen counters. We also found mice feces on the stove, every counter top, inside the bowls on the counter and all over the carpet in the living room. We contacted the front desk who sent maintenance. They placed traps all around and then we left for the day (three hours behind schedule). By the way, we also placed all of our unopened food in the fridge as they suggested to us as this would keep the mice away.

We returned at appx 10PM after a long day of museums and the like to find two mice in our bedroom. We called maintenance again who came about 15 minutes later. They put out more traps and tried to locate the mice which they couldn't. We then began to pack up our items so we could leave the resort. We then found mice feces in our luggage and on top of our folded clothes and all around our bedroom. Both maintenance men were very nice and apologetic and tried to help but we told them that we couldn't stay there in these type of conditions.

We went to the front desk and encountered an extremely rude and uninterested front desk person. When told about our problem and why we were checking out she stated that she was from the country so it was no big deal. She then said that she could switch us to another room or check us out. When we told her that we didn't want to stay there she said that she would check us out then. No apology ever received from this lady!! So we got to stay here for three days on a seven day reservation which was pre-paid (We still have yet to receive any reimbursement).

We called RCI who exchanged us to a unit at the Wyndham Kingsgate. We only stayed here one night though as our vacation had been ruined by this point.

On the night we checked out from Patriot's Place, we asked for the manager who wasn't in so we asked for the manager to call us the next day. Never received a response. We took a Wyndham survey about our experience and were told via email response that the survey would be sent to the Patriot's manager, again never any response from the manager. Not happy...

I would never recommend this resort to anyone. The mice issues are one thing, the staff and management issues is a whole different situation. The hotel/resort industry is supposed to be trained the best in customer service because that is their livelihood but apparently not at this property.

Room Tip: Get a room as far away from the woods as possible. We were told that the units close to the woods ge...

We just returned from a week at Patriot's Place in Williamsburg, VA. The grounds were beautiful, the unit was attractive, comfortable and very clean. We were so happy to find free WiFi in our room, a washer/ dryer in the building and pleased that the swimming pool was already open for the season.

Patriot's Place is very close to Colonial Williamsburg and certainly makes for an enjoyable relaxing vacation. We plan to return next year.

We stayed at the Wyndham Patriots Place for three nights and our expereince couldn't have been much better. The unit had recently been renovated and all the appliances (large and small) were new and/or in great condition. The layout of the unit (a one bedroom deluxe) was such that our third traveler could access the bathroom without entering the bedroom and we could access the bathroom without entering the living room (where she slept). We called the morning of our scheduled arrival and informed Maria that we had an older traveler with us and she was able to put us in an "accessible" unit that included ramps (all the other units have a few steps) and a step-in shower (along with a regular shower/tub combination). It made it much easier for her. The pool was beautiful and well-maintained. Patriots Place has few "activities" on site but many are available at other (nearby) Wyndham facilities and Patriots Place guests are welcome to use them. Complimentary wi-fi is now available in the units. We were so busy doing tourist things that we didn't feel that we had missed anything. Numerous restaurants are nearby and the location is great.

We stayed here on an exchange, the grounds are spotless, unit was spotless and staff was welcoming. It is an excellent location, I think about 3 miles to Colonial Williamsburg, several restaurants in the area and other points of interest are close. We did have free wireless, the bathrooms look like they have been recently updated. The furnishings are dated, however the unit itself was spotless. The setting is charming. I would stay here again because of the location and it is very quiet. We stayed at Another RCI resort here previously which might be newer but the atmosphere is more to our liking.
