This was't the first time staying here, and probably won't be the last.

Found the hotel clean, the staff friendly. Found nicer furniture in the room than one would expect at an Econlodge.

We like the pool, altho it is small, and the wooded lot gives the place a rural country feel. We enjoyed having 2nd Street Pub next door, and we did walk to CW from here - an easy walk if you take the right route.

The "breakfast" was just that: enough offerings to "break the fast" of 10 hours with no eating .. nothing great, but good donuts, juice, etc.

Big Complaint - and not the hotel's fault: There's a car dealership across the street, at corner of 2nd Street and Parkway Dr. Shortly after 7 am we are forced to hear the pages: "Parts, line 1", "Service please pickup line 3", etc., continuing until we left for the day.

This disturbance of the peace shouldn't be allowed anywhere, and especially next to a hotel in a resort/vacation area. Complained to the Mayor of the city - I go on vacation to relax & sleep late. Let the dealership buy pagers instead of using loudspeakers. The staff at the hotel says no one has ever complained about that noise, which I find it hard to believe ... maybe they were just afraid I's want a credit, which I wouldn't as they have no control over it, other than making their own complaints known.

I'll just try to get a room further back, as I will return. Maybe with a bullhorn so I can park outside the car dealer's home on a Sunday morning and do some "paging" of my own.

“clean and a good value”

We stayed at the Econolodge Colonial for three nights. Our choices were limited because we went the day after July 4th. The room was spotlessly clean, check in was a breeze and our prepaid tickets for Williamsburg and Jamestown and Yorktown were waiting for us. I booked the hotel at GoWilliamsburg about 3 weeks in advance. The room was $64.00 a night which is pretty reasonable. I couldn't see spending a lot of money since we wouldn't spend much time in the room. A few tips: use your cellphone for making calls other than toll free-it will cost you less. The pool seems to be open 24 hours a day which is bad when your room, like ours, was right over the pool. Screaming kids at all hours doesn't make for restful sleep. The walls are paper thin, every noise could be heard, and people are not quiet when they walk through the hallways. The motel is small with a tiny parking lot, but it is off the beaten path away from the touristy part of town. It is also very close to the Bypass road which will take you to Williamsburg, Jamestown and Yorktown. However, you cannot walk to Williamsburg no matter what the hotel clerk tells you. Take your car! We had a slight problem with one electrical outlet-the refrigerator didn't work. We called the front desk and a maintenance man was there within minutes to fix the problem. He did some rearranging and after awhile the refrigerator kicked on and started working. Plenty of clean towels-bring your own beach towels, the towels are small and I don't think they believe in fabric softener! The pool was small but clean. For some reason the TV remote was off by one channel-in other words, if you wanted channel 13, you had to hit 24 on the remote. Maybe it didn't go with the tv. Channels are limited, but you arent' there to watch tv, right? All in all it was a good experience. A good value and very clean. Check the reviews on this site, they are very helpful in choosing hotels and restaurants. I chose to stay here on the recommendation of others, which carries a lot of weight with me. This is a good place to stay if you want cheap and clean.

“Great rate, clean, old air conditioner”

Good points: The rate is almost half the typical Williamsburg rate. No frills but the room was clean including the bathroom which is very important to us. Plenty of towels, etc. Very convenient and quiet side street location. This is one of the closest hotels to the Colonial Village, and practically has its own entrance to the Colonial Parkway to zip up to Yorktown battlefield or down to Jamestown settlement.

Bad points: the air conditioner in our room was old and noisy when it cycled. Not much cool air came from it. The breakfast was minimal cereal, donuts, etc. Don't stay here for the breakfast. We couldn't care less because one of the reasons to visit Williamsburg is the great waffle resturants. And at night the Second Street restaurant next door has the BEST brownie sundae we have ever had.

“wouldn't stay here again!”

Econo Lodge Colonial

My husband and I stayed there for one night in August, 2004. The continental breakfast was just ok. The outdoor pool opened a little too late--10:00 am, and check-out is 11:00 am. We picked this particular location because of the pool and couldn't make use of it. We found several centipedes in the room. There were restaurants within walking distance and the location was good, but we wouldn't stay at this Econo Lodge again.

My stay at this motel in May, 2004, was an enjoyable one. Clean room, quiet area, a good choice for an Econo Lodge in Williamsburg. Not too far from Busch Gardens and has a breakfast restaurant nearby. I would stay there again.
