“A very pleasant surprise!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 19, 2013

We booked this hotel because of a very low price but did not expect much to be honest. It only has 2 stars on most rating sites, but we soon realized that is because there is little fluff and glitz, not because the facilities are substandard. This property is technically a motel. All units are on one floor and have outside entrances. The doors are unique - the owners retained the old louvered, plantation style wood doors but inside those are a modern insulated door with card reader. Upon entering you are struck by how simple but attractive and clean the room is. We had a king room and all the bedding was as updated and nice as many 4 star hotels we've stayed in. Very comfortable mattress too. The bathroom was also updated and very clean but a bit on the small side. However it provided everything we needed . They use frosted windows in the bathroom so you get lots of natural light but still have privacy. There was a flat screen TV and the remote actually worked! Amenities like iron and board, shampoo & lotion, restaurant guide, folding luggage rack were all there as well. Wrought iron benches outside each room were a nice touch. In the main welcome center building there was ice and vending machines and they offered a substantial continental breakfast buffet every morning. Or, those with heftier appetites can literally walk next door and eat at the Colonial Pancacke House, a long-tine Williamsburg breakfast & lunch only site. For those going to Williamsburg for the day, the welcome center is literally right down the street. All in all, I would highly recommend this property to anyone that is looking for simple, clean and convenient accomodations.

This Inn is ran very well. It is a little older, but they continue to work on improvements. Our room was kept nice & clean. The $$$$$$value was spectacular. The location made it easy to walk to downtown Williamsburg, It was an easy drive to all of the surrounding areas. They provided a breakfast of cereals, bagels & muffins. A Bonus was the Waffle maker, awesome! Coffee was freshly brewed & delightful. We will go back another time. The manager & owner was warm and very helpful.

Room Tip: Great Value

Pros: room was large, clean and comfortable; friendly staff; better continental breakfast than some hotels, but not hot food other than waffles. Great price
Cons: farther to Colonial Williamsburg than most people want to walk, but we like to walk so it was fine for us.

We decided to go for a motel on our travels this time, purely because this motel offered everything and more than one of the larger hotel chains. Our rate of $50 included, 2 queen Beds, free wi-fi, free parking and free buffet breakfast. The room was clean and had all the items we needed for a one night stay (which really isnt much), the guy at the front desk was friendly and efficient and was very knowledgable of the surrounding area. The free breakfast was adequate for a motel, continental fare with coffee, if you time it the same time as other travellers it gets a little crowded in the small room, but to be honest we took our breakfast back to our room which was only across the courtyard.

The location of this motel was ideal and in easy reach of Colonial Williamsburg and Jamestown Settlement. Colonial Williamsburg is literally 5 mins by car away, with plenty of parking. We also ate in the Golden Corral which has been recently refurbished on Bypass Road, again only 5 minutes by car.

All in all this motel surprised me and to be honest for those on a budget its excellant value.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 319, 2 x queens (no fridge or microwave), plenty of room for a family of four, bat...

Ordinarily I probably would not choose a Rodeway Inn, but this one is great. It is very inexpensive ($45 for a double room) but roomy, clean and nice. The bed was comfortable and everything worked as it was supposed to. The bathroom was a bit cramped, but it was not a problem. That rate also included a continental breakfast the next morning - not fancy, but fine. In a city with high hotel rates this is just the place to stay so you can spend your money elsewhere!

Room Tip: All rooms are on the ground level, and all are about the same.

After reading numerous reviews, I had high hopes for this property but was sadly disappointed. The carpet in the room was very dirty and I needed to keep my shoes on while walking around. There were hairs on the floor in the bathroom and the sheets on the bed looked clean, but had some stains them. There's a no pet policy, but the people in the room next to me brought their dog into their room anyway and it barked until about 11:30pm and started up again a little after 6am. I complained to the front desk in the morning and promptly checked out so I could find somewhere else to sleep.

Being off-season, we were of just a handful of folks staying. Be aware that the standard double rooms do not have mini-fridge or microwaves - something we discovered after arrival so we had to upgrade to a double queen room to have the fridge (and a bit more room in the room.) So our rooms were $60 per night instead of the original $45. Room was clean. The heat was hard to adjust which seems to be a chronic problem at most motels. We liked having the car in front and the green shuttered outer door was charming. The 'breakfast' wasn't great - cereal or a waffle and coffee. So if you are low-carbing, decide to have breakfast somewhere else. We did not walk to the historic district but saw that we could have. The evening staff person was very nice and suggested the 2nd Street Cafe for dinner which was excellent and just around the corner. This motel was SO much nicer than the nearby Quality Inn that I stayed at last fall. They gave us a business card upon checkout that will get us a good rate if we return and we heard that they really treat return customers well.

Room Tip: Standard double rooms do not have microwaves or mini-fridges.
